Sharp calculators was my partner during my high school years up to college years(I took up business management). It was my constant accessory in my bag. And now, Sharp calculators are looking for 2015 Ten Outstanding Young Mathematicians!

Six years ago, Sharp Calculators through Collins International Trading Corporation launched the SHARP Minds Program to help uplift the standard of education in the Philippines particularly in teaching Math subjects.

This year, Sharp Calculators furthers its advocacy by partnering with more educational institutions such as the Department of Education-National Capital Region (DepEd-NCR), Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), Mathematics Trainers’ Guild Philippines (MTG), Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP), Philippine Council of Mathematics Educators, Inc. (MathTEd)as it launches the very first search for the TEN OUSTANDING YOUNG MATHEMATICIANS (TOYM) from National Capital Region.

The press launch was held at Makati Shangri-La and was hosted by one of my fave reporter, Atom Araullo.

The search is open to all public and private high school students in the National Capital Region who have completed at least two years of high school. They must be Filipino citizens, either naturalized or born. The nominee must be among the Top 3 students in math as certified by the school principal and the award will be based primarily on the nominee’s performance on national and international competitions.

A recommendation from School principal / Mathematics head with supporting documents will be the basis of judging. For students who are chosen to the top 20, each involvement on activities included in the recommendation of the principal/math head or other recognized authority will be reviewed and assessed by judges/co-presenters. The said recommendations will be the basis of the judges’ questions for the panel interview.

The Deliberation/ Final interview of finalist will be conducted by representatives from Department of Education NCR, DOST-SEI, MTG Philippines, MSP, MathTed

According to data from the Department of Tourism, International tourist arrivals to the Philippines from January to August of 2013 grew to 3.18 million from 2.85 million for the same period a year earlier. Last September 18, I was invited to attend the 2014 GREEN RETAIL AGENDA The Business Case for Disaster Risk Reduction Manila, Philippines and it was held at SMX Convention Center.

In the past years, the SM Green Retail Agenda has focused more on climate change mitigation and, to a lesser degree, on adaptation. This year, with the increasing strength and frequency of natural disasters, it is important to create shared value within the private sector.

As a member of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction – Private Sector Partnerships, SM Supermalls seeks to educate, create awareness, and emphasize action points within the private sector and other key stakeholders to ensure disasters will be prepared for and recovered from.

The theme for this year’s conference is The Business Case for Disaster Risk Reduction, emphasizing the need to prepare for the unforeseen to protect our businesses and the community as a whole. Our roster of speakers will focus on disaster risk resilience, preparedness, tools and best practices to strengthen and empower the retail business and community amidst natural disasters.

Disaster reduction experts discussed disaster preparedness measures to protect businesses and communities from natural calamities, new technologies in disaster management and communicating disaster preparations.

I know a lot of you have watched the UAAP Cheerdance Competition. And many of you cheered your hearts out for your school. But the National University(NU) Pep Squad won the title.

In line with this, NU Pep Squad held a thanksgiving celebration for bagging the championship at the 77th UAAP Cheerdance Competition.

The NU gymnasium was filled with students and professors, together with SM executives to personally meet the champions. Applause and cheers welcomed NU Pep Squad during the repeat performance of their winning performance.

The overwhelming support from their alma mater led to NU Pep Squad in donating a portion of their prize winnings to the Yolanda survivors through SM Cares Yolanda Housing Project. This is their way of giving back to the community and helping those who are in need.

SM Cares is committed to build 1,000 houses to help Yolanda survivors. These houses are designed to be disaster-resilient with concrete ceilings and plenty of ventilation.

The country’s favorite cooking gas Solane has crowned the first winner of Cuisinera Challenge: 30 Minute Easy Recipe, a search for the tastiest homemade dishes that won over judges during the cook-off event at The Cookery Place in Bonifacio Global City.

The panel of judges, which included Solane marketing head Carisse Vendiola and promotions and research manager Valeri Batenga, was led by renowned chef Edith Singian while contestants came from as far as Cebu and Pangasinan.

Addressing the contestants, Solane general manager for supply and operations Jaypee Gonzales said, “Solane goes beyond providing safe LPG tanks by helping budding cooks in their journey to concoct the most delicious homemade dishes. It is admirable that the finalists made it this far using technique and imagination to create wonderful dishes.”

Out of 22 finalists, Maridel Pacleb’s original recipes emerged as the most outstanding entries in the competition. Pacleb presented the judges with two original culinary creations: For the Regional Dish category that featured native Filipino recipes, she concocted the Buttered Pork Tenderloin Adobo in Parsley Garlic Cream Sauce. Given the secret ingredient tablea in the Market Basket category, Pacleb served Chicken Roulade with Spicy Tablea Chocolate Sauce.

She took home Best in Regional Recipe, Best in Presentation (Market Basket) awards, and the Grand Prize, which included P30,000 and a one-year supply of Solane LPG. Standout home recipes were also made by Fe Merluza (Best in Market Basket Recipe) and Joy Marie Crabajal (Best in Presentation – Regional Recipe). Other finalists were John Paul Lumiguen, Jac Abadia, Honeylyn Bonagua-Agulto, Leonidas Gabe Manayaga, Jelanie Tamayo, Denise Christine Gonzales-Bernardo, Maria Luisa Juanson, Perly Antido and Joemar Ray Castro, who also took home gift packs from Solane.

When it comes with my hair, I say they're low maintenance. In the past, whenever I want to color my hair, I only buy hair coloring then I'll ask my sister to do it for me. I thought kasi, why go to a salon and have it colored by professionals when I can ask my sister to color my hair without shelling out a single centavo. Well, the results may not be that great(always, actually), especially when one time my sister colored my hair, and it turned out she did not color my bangs enough. haha! But what can I expect, right? And I guess I was scared too. Scared of what I will look like, or I may not like the hair color and spent too much money on it.

My perception about having my hair color in the salons change when I was invited to try the Ombre service at Azta Urban Salon in Jazz Residence, Makati branch. Excited is putting it mildly. I was thrilled and ecstatic when Azta Urban asked me if I want to try the Ombre look. My thoughts upon receiving the email? Finally! It will be done professionally! haha!

The last time I had a colored hair was last year, I think. And since it grew longer, I've been sporting black hair ever since. Not that I'm bothered, but I know having a little hair color will bring some excitement to my lifeless, dull hair.

When I went to Azta, they asked me what kind of Ombre do I want. Honestly, I have no idea. I just told them that they can do whatever they want since it's going to be my first time and as long as it will flatter my (round)face. I'm just too excited for the result. I told them kahit anong klaseng Ombre basta magka-color ang hair ko, lol! Talk about desperate!

My hair stylist, Ms Lyn(right photo) asked me what is my everyday lifestyle. What's my daily routine and so on. I gave her a hint kasi that I want a little bit wilder or blunt color. She suggested to go for brown hues and little lighter brown at the bottom. My Ombre style is called Sombre with a little Balayage combo (to know more about it, please read here.). It's a freestyle coloring with a little bit of sun-kissed natural look. I guess the outrageous color is not bagay with my lifestyle. and... age! Lol!

Ms. Lyn also gave me a layered haircut to highlight the Sombre look.

If you're a first timer like me, here's what I experienced during the process:

- a little numbness around my head

- cold scalp na feeling ko may something minty na nilagay

- heaviness around my head after

I asked them what's happening, of course. Since it was my first time, our guess was, my scalp and hair aren't use to anything, and medyo na-shock siguro sya or something. I asked around and was told that it is normal and it will wear off in a few hours. And it did! In less than 30 minutes or so, I didn't feel any numbness or heaviness at all.

And TADAH!!! This picture didn't do justice how awesome my Ombre looks now! But believe me, they're so pretty! A lot of people has been complimenting the new look! (they blow-dried my hair here for picture purposes, hehe!) It's not drastic or dramatic as I want but the Sombre complements my lifestyle and I'm so happy with the result! The Sombre style is easier for me to maintain and when it's against the sun, the highlights of my hair really stands out!
