Happy Bread Day with Gardenia

A week ago, I joined the celebration of World Bread Day with Gardenia held at Glorietta Activity Center. It was my 1st time to attend such event na super overflowing ang bread. From every corner of the activity center, different spreads and all kinds of Gardenia breads were present. And good news was, free taste sya!

Now on its third straight year, Gardenia’s “Happy Bread Day” celebrates the role of bread for everyone’s daily nutritional—and even emotional— nourishment. “Happy Bread Day” is also Gardenia’s own way of reminding Pinoys to have fun and show their love for bread in line with the celebration of “World Bread Day” held every October 16 where all bread lovers the world over share the goodness of bread while advocating the “sharing” and “breaking” of bread as a significant and symbolic humanitarian act.

This year, all families, friends and anyone who just love to eat bread will truly have fun as Gardenia opens the gates of Bread Town, an overwhelming realm full of fun activities, prizes, games, surprises and overflowing breads. The event is made even bigger as Gardenia holds the finale of the Next Big Sandwich Hit, a sandwich-making and business idea generation competition among students from 10 different colleges and universities taking up either Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) or Culinary courses.

Two thumbs-up for you, Gardenia!

MANGO Philippines took the Philippine fashion scene by storm last week when they opened their flagship store in Mall of Asia. At the opening, they launched the Fall/Winter ’13 line, where they featured not only the women’s collection, but also H.E. by MANGO and TOUCH. Long-time fans and followers of the brand can also expect refreshing additions in the form of their latest concepts, MANGO Kids and MANGO Sport&Intimates.

The event were hosted by Borgy Manotoc and Nicole Anderson

The brand has expanded to a full-blown fashion empire, now introducing product extensions in the form of new concepts: H.E. by MANGO, TOUCH, Kids, and Sport&Intimates.

Super inlove with the rockstar/grungy style from MANGO. FTW ang edgy vibe!

MANGO Sport&Intimates, on the other hand, brings in premium active wear and undergarments. Catering to the sensual and fitness-savvy woman is a range of pants, shorts, tops, and sweaters that encourage flexibility and freedom of movement, whatever your fitness regimen.

And dito talaga ako na excite! MANGO Kids offers fun, fashionable choices for children from 3 to 12. Showcasing everyday basics and more on-trend garments, it also incorporates miniature versions from the women’s collection, aptly called the “Mini Me” line. Young boys and girls can check out a wealth of choices from tees and jeans to footwear and accessories.

Composed of MANGO’s Suit, Casual-Sport, and Jeans collections, the Fall/Winter line channels many sartorial influences. Focused on the punk and grunge movements, trousers, dresses, and sweaters also display British mod, dark bohemian, and androgynous elements.

Shiny sequined blazers, beaded shifts and ruched evening gowns make up the evening collection. Suit separates in navy, one of the season’s hottest shades, pinstripes, houndstooth, and checks go with anything, from ripped and bleached denim to vinyl micro minis. Finally, floral-print bomber jackets, slacks, and dresses capture the faded luxe vibe perfectly.

Actor Troy Montero with wife Aubrey Miles and their son also graced the runway show.

The MANGO Fall/Winter ’13 collection is currently available at all MANGO and TOUCH stores nationwide. Here are some photos that I took inside the store.

Pasig City gives premium on the cleanliness of the community and the welfare of its residents. SCHICK’s advocacy campaign, Suaveng Ahit, Gwapong Schick Barangay Tour, found this for a fact as it reached its last leg on September 30 in Barangay Kalawaan, Pasig City, which was hailed as “Pinakagwapong Barangay” together with the dance diva, Regine Tolentino.

Schick, one of the country’s most trusted brands for effective grooming, started this advocacy barangay tour in December 2012. It aims to promote proper personal grooming and also cleanliness in the community, for the ‘Gwapong Mamamayan’ which is about personal grooming, Schick provided free haircut and shaving services to the residents of the areas we visited. Thousands of samples of Schick Exacta2 Disposables were given away.  For Gwapong Syudad, we have worked with the Barangay of the community and promoted maintaining cleanliness of the surroundings.   The barangay caravan got under way first to Salamalabanan Subdivision in Imus Cavite, then of Antipolo, Muntinlupa, Novaliches, Caloocan, and Pasig City. The caravan held several activities such as three-on-three basketball game, a free-throw and half-court shootout, and a dance showdown that promoted sportsmanship among the participants.

PINAKAGWAPONG BARANGAY. All-out support from Schick's team led by Marketing Manager Cara Ramirez-Tecson and dance diva Regine Tolentino during the last leg of Suaveng Ahit, Gwapong Schick Barangay Tour held at Barangay Kalawaan, Pasig City

Barangay Kalawaan, Pasig City, was awarded the best-looking barangay because of its liveliness despite its dense population. Its busy streets proved that the barangay was a winner, together with its officials who helped achieve peace and order as well as healthy lifestyle.

“Unang-una nagpapasalamat po ako sa programang SCHICK dahil kami ang napilibilang Pinaka-gwapong Barangay,” saidBarangay Kalawaan Captain Jaime “Jimmy” Lee. “Maraming tao ang natulungan at nakinabang dito sa aming barangay lalo na ang SAKTODA, added Lee.

Schick has always believed that being well groomed boosts not just physical but also mental wellness, and hence makes for a more confident community.

SCHICK AWARDS LED TV.  Marketing Manager Cara Ramirez Tecson (second from left) together with dancing diva Regine Tolentino (third from left) hand over the LED TV to Barangay Kalawaan, Pasig City SAKTODA, as the “Pinakagwapong Barangay”.

“We plan to do this event through our distributors across Philippines and have their own mini barangay tour of the Suaveng Ahit, Gwapong Schick,” said stated SCHICK Marketing Manager Cara Ramirez-Tecson.“We believe in its advocacy of promoting proper personal grooming while ensuring that we keep the community in mind as well when it comes to wellness and cleanliness. Last week, I attended the Mattress Launch: A Majestic Sleeping Experience by Kensington at Our Home, SM Megamall. The event were hosted by the power couple, Anthony and Maricel Pangilinan.

The Uratex Premium Mattress allows anyone to sleep on its royal and majestic elegance and magnificent comfort that will suit everyone’s varied needs and tastes in comfortable style. There's 3 types of Kensington beds to choose from. There's Kensington Classic, Kensington Luxe and Kensington Oppulent.

Honestly before, I thought sleeping as long as there's a bed, you'll be well rested. But, it's not always the case. You need to build a habit, a pattern and a good bed to achieve and enjoy a good rest. Dr. Deborah Bernardo shared her insights in why sleeping is good for us. That there's  a long term effects if you have poor quality of sleep. We may be young now, and enjoying every waking moment of our lives with no sleep. But in a long run, our body might not be able to cope when we reach our old age.

With IDr. Stephanie Yan, PIID, she shared the benefits of designing your bedroom. Making it attractive enough to lure you into sleep and cozy enough to be intimate. Anthony Pangilinan also shared that as much as possible, don't bring your laptop, gadgets into your bed. Make it your bonding time, bonding place with your family. (note to self.)

Uratex also held a Student Bedroom Vignette Contest wherein young aspiring designers designed a bedroom. And here are their designs.

The young group of ladies called this bedroom the "Alice All Grown Up". They used Kensington Luxe as their bed.

An Aubergine Affair as the title of this bedroom. They used the Kensington Classic.

The Slumber in Lush bedroom used white decors as their aesthetics. And Kensington Opulent for the bed.

"Alice All Grown Up" took home the grand prize! Congratulations, girls! Good job!

Group pic with our very own Kensington Pillow! Thank you, Uratex! :) (pic grabbed from Rochelle Rivera)

And in line with what's happening in Tacloban and some parts of Visayas due to Yolanda, Uratex gave 4,000 sets of mattresses, 2M cash donation for rebuilding school and classrooms and 2M worth of blankets. Super thank you Uratex for your generous heart.  Your generosity is the start of a new beginning for these people that can now rest comfortably with their Uratex bed. Thank you.

Ang Kulay ng Pasko with Tang

A week ago, I was able to witnessed a "flash mob" in my favorite transpo when I commute. Yes, it's none other than the MRT station. But we usually see the flash mob ng dance. Not a singing choir, right? And in line with what's happening in our country right now, some of the faces inside the MRT either has a gloomy face or sadness because of the recent tragedy. I myself can't imagine how I will celebrate and feel the happiness that Christmas season brings.

So, imagine the surprise of all the people inside the MRT when one by one, children ages 8-14years old stood up, gathered at the center and began singing Christmas medley songs in tagalog. Kakaibang karoling indeed.

If there’s one thing we Filipinos love doing, it’s singing. Whether it’s a kid being asked to come up with an impromptu performance during a family reunion, or somebody belting out a power ballad into a videoke machine (with or without score), sharing the gift of music is in our blood. No wonder karoling is so widespread throughout the country when the “-ber” months come around.

This image of karolers as bringers of Christmas cheer is central to Tang Philippines’ latest endeavor. This year, Tang plans to make everybody’s Christmas more colorful with its campaign to bring “Ang Kulay ng Pasko”. The first stop? The Karoling Flashmob right on the MRT. Tang brought together a special group of karolers to create a colorful Christmas for commuters, people who likely could use a bit more color in their everyday ride. Add to this experience the many refreshing, delicious and colorful flavors of Tang that make it a great brand to bring out the Christmas cheer!

Good thing Sofi was with me at that time. She can't believe that these children presented us a song inside the MRT. :) (photo grabbed from Ava)

All smiles at the MRT :))

Commuting after all can bring a damper on the happy atmosphere of the Holidays: Longlines and a crush of people during this season are facts of life.

During the campaign launch last November 6, Tang prepared different surprises for commuters all over the Metro. As an early Christmas treat, booths were set up to offer the different Tang juice colors and flavors to refresh those who may be tired from the daily commute or simply needed a little more color to their day. Not only that, thousands of lucky commuters were also treated to free MRT tickets courtesy of Tang. All these while the kid karolers serenaded people waiting in line for their tickets or their turn to ride the MRT as Tang truly shared “Ang Kulay ng Pasko!”

Through this project, Tang’s karolers plan to brighten up the days of the often-weary commuters with the gift of song, as Christmas draws ever closer. On selected days, a group of karolers will be paying visits to several MRT stations and singing a selection of Christmas karols there. This will continue on different days, at different times, along different stations, in order to spread the color to as many people as possible.
So be on the lookout for these Tang karolers.

For more information on this new colorful campaign, visit tanggalingclub.com/karoling.

Thank you, Tang Philippines for lifting up the Filipino spirit with simple joys such as caroling.

Share Your Child’s Song with ‘Tang Galing sa Karoling’

Christmas, being a time of merry-making and holiday performances, is particularly special to us Filipinos. “Karoling,” specifically, becomes a simple but meaningful way for people to make everybody’s holidays a bit more colorful.

From the busiest streets to the quietest neighborhoods, one can’t help but see things a bit more vibrant. In spite of the cool breeze, you can feel a little warmer inside when children’s joyful voices are blending together as one, cheerily carrying the Christmas spirit through the air.

This holiday season, Tang Philippines seeks to spread Christmas cheer all over the country through the magic of ”karoling”—made possible by you and your kids! You can share the Christmas color and let the power of your child’s voice be heard, together with thousands of other karolers via the “Tang Galing sa Karoling” microsite and free mobile app (available for Android users since and coming soon for Apple users).

Of this cheerful initiative, JR Miranda, Senior Brand Manager of Tang Philippines, said, “Children, specifically, have the ability to make everybody’s holidays more vibrant when they share their voices in a round of Christmas ‘karols.’ That’s why we are empowering you and your children to take on a more active role in spreading joy to more people, anytime and anywhere, through the power of digital connectivity.”

“Christmas after all is about kids. So this project celebrates it in a grand way—with and through kids,” Miranda added.

Tang has been refreshing kids and moms for many years. It’s a perfect brand to create a more colorful Christmas because of its refreshing, delicious and colorful 10 flavors. Each one a perfect pair to any Christmas dish or Noche Buena meal. Thus, Tang seeks to extend the color it brings from the table to the rest of the world with its new campaign “Ang Kulay ng Pasko.”

In line with this campaign, the “Tang Galing sa Karoling” microsite and free mobile app allows parents like you to share your children’s talents to the rest of the world by singing a Christmas karol.

You can upload video recordings of your children’s performances of popular Christmas songs, karaoke-style! Lyrics, pre-recorded music, and additional sound effects are provided to enhance your child’s singing experience. Children can also get creative with their submitted “karol” by putting a different spin on the song, or performing their own unique rendition.

Not only that, “the videos can also be used as greetings to family, friends, loved ones, and/or anyone you think would appreciate an extra dose of Christmas joy, since at the end of each video recording, there is time for you to say a Christmas greeting or message to your loved ones then send and share,” Miranda added.

At the end of the promotion, selected voices will be compiled to create a virtual karoling choir video. Your child can be part of this grand effort, doing his or her part in making Christmas more colorful all around the world.

For more information on “Tang Galing sa Karoling” and for performance submissions, please visit www.tanggalingclub.com/karoling.

Happy Karoling!! :))

A week ago, I was invited to attend a luncheon with Ms. Earth 2013 delegates at Yoshinoya, Robinson's Galleria branch. The place was packed with beautiful people, yummy food galore courtesy of Yoshinoya.

As I've said in my previous post, it was my 1st time to taste Yoshinoya. Kaya sobrang excited ako to try them. And for less than php160, you get to taste authentic japanese dishes.

I'm not a fan of cucumber, but this Kani Salad is a must-try. Loved their dressing.

Don't forget to vote and support me as your candidate to Ms. Earth 2013. CHOS! haha! :P

Ms. Japan

Our very own (and true) candidate, Ms. Philippines! Good luck, girl! :))

Ms. Earth delegates enjoying their lunch.

Aside from the photo op. and meet and greet, the delegates played a simple but fun game. And take note, in heels!

Using chopsticks to get a marshmallow? Perfect for parlor games for your Christmas party. Magawa nga ito. :)

A little background of Ms. Earth: The Miss Earth beauty contest is an annual pageant that focuses on environmental awareness. Started in 2001, the green-driven contest is organized by Carousel Productions, through the Miss Earth Foundation.

With the theme "International Year of Water Cooperation,'' 90 candidates from around the world will compete in the 2013 Miss Earth beauty contest which will be held at the Versailles Palace in Alabang, Muntinlupa on December 7, 2013. The proclaimed winner will become the spokesperson and ambassador of the foundation, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and other groups promoting care for the environment.

This year's advocacy will focus on eco-tourism as it contributes to the country's effort to use tourism as a means to help alleviate poverty. The Miss Earth pageant will show to the world how beautiful the Philippines is.

Teresa Fajksova of the Czech Republic is the reigning Miss Earth. Karla Henry is the first Miss Earth from the Philippines. The first Miss Earth was Catharina Svenson of Denmark.

Best of  luck, ladies! I know your country is proud of you! I hope you're also enjoying your stay here in our country. :)

Thank you Yoshinoya and Ms. Cha for the invite! Visit Ms. Cha's blog for more up-to-date happening around the metro! :)

All about Yoshinoya

Got to taste Yoshinoya dishes for the 1st time last week at the Ms. Earth lunch held in Robinsons Galleria. Loved that it's very affordable without compromising its taste and authenticity.

Beef Bowl ( Gyudon ) is Yoshinoya’s specialty.  It is the same product profile where Yoshinoya operates in other parts of the world. The core product is prepared using premium beef with the special beef stock over steaming bowl of white rice.

Yoshinoya was born in 1899 under the ingenuity of its founder, a Japanese, named Eikichi Matsuda.   Our story begins at Nihonbashi, a humble fish market in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, on the outskirts of Edo Castle where Mr. Matsuda created a delicious recipe of beef and rice known as Gyudon (beef bowl).  Named for his birthplace of Yoshino-Cho, Osaka, Mr. Matsuda’s restaurant featured delicious, affordable and fast meals.

It was an entirely new concept in Japanese culture, and both the hard-working fisherman and market visitors embraced it. Yoshinoya was an instant hit. In 1923, Japan was hit by the Great Kanto Earthquake  and Yoshinoya  had to move to Tsukiji with the rest of the fish market and throngs of hungry patrons continued to enjoy Yoshinoya’s original gyūdon, or Beef Bowl.

In 1946, Mizuho Matsuda, son of Eikichi Matsuda, turned the business into a 24-hour restaurant and rapidly gained wide spread popularity in Japan. In 1958, it became a corporate company operating on a chain store system. Yoshinoya boasts of more than 100 years of tradition. Yoshinoya has grown to be one of the most important brands in Japan and boasts of more than 1,000 outlets, making it one of the biggest fast-food chains in Japan. To date, there are more than 1200 outlets around the world, namely Japan, USA, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia and the Philippines.   Soon, it will open in Thailand and Vietnam as part of its expansion program in the Asian region.

Now, there are currently six branches in Metro Manila:  SM MEGAMALL, SM MALL OF ASIA, SM MANILA, SM NORTH EDSA, ROBINSONS GALLERIA, AND GLORIETTA 1.

Yoshinoya’s logo, the “bull horn” was invented by Yoshinoya’s Mizuho Matsuda, with orange as its main color and has been adopted as Yoshinoya’s log since 1899.  The idea of the “bull horn” logo was derived from the initial letter of Yoshinoya “Y) while the rope surrounding the horn represents “Yokozuna” ranking (winner) in Japanese sumo-wrestling, also representing the Yokozuna quality of our food.  The surrounding rope is made of 27 rice grains and the whole log means Yoshinoya sells the “best beef bowls”

Head over to Yoshinoya now and get a taste of authentic Japanese dishes! Happy eating! :)
