Repertory Philippines presents Pinocchio at Onstage, Greenbelt 1

A week ago, I was invited to attend the press preview of Pinocchio held at Onstage, Greenbelt 1. I brought Sofi and my Mom since I was given 3 passes. It was Sofi's 1st time to watch a play and it's been years since I last saw one. So imagine Sofi's kilig when she learned that she will watch a Pinocchio play! haha! Side kwento lang, she thought play is like a puppet show. Had to show her what play looks like on youtube. hehe! :D


We are all familiar with the story of Pinocchio, right? Growing up with Disney movies, I'm sure you can tell the story by heart. Sofi's not that familiar though. Mas ma-princess kasi sya and fairy fairy. If you ask her the story of Tangled, Frozen, Cinderella, she will tell you the whole story without batting an eyelash! Haha! All she knows about Pinocchio is that every time he lie, nag grow ang nose nya. But the whole story? Not too much. And I'm glad we were invited to watch the play. We learned that it was not a Disney adaptation but it has been newly adapted for today’s young audiences in this award-winning musical based on the Book by Carlo Collodi, Adaptation and Lyrics by Jim Eiler; and Music by Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy.


Set in Italy, this version tells the beloved tale of Pinocchio, a boy-sized puppet built by the caring puppet maker, Geppetto. Knowing of his longing for a son, the Blue Fairy brings Pinocchio to life as a reward for Geppetto's remarkably generous spirit. Pinocchio is told by the Blue Fairy that if he always obeys his father, she will turn him into a real boy. But the best laid plans can sometimes go awry and Pinocchio's boyish longings leads him away from his father and on an adventure unlike any other. From the Land of The Toys to the belly of a whale, Pinocchio learns that no love is greater than that of a parent for a child.

The new and fresh production of Pinocchio is a real treat for the entire family with a flurry of masks, music and merriment. It will be alive, charming and bursting with energy. The children in the audience will be spellbound with its visually stunning and colorful set design and costumes with loads of fun.

I personally loved the set. Sofi was focused too. Because of not too many props, you can see clearly all the actors and naka focus ka lang sa kanila and their dialogue.

For this production, the role of PINOCCHIO will be alternately performed by Albert Silos, Noel Comia, Daniel Drilon, Guido Gatmaytan, Sofie Wong and Andee Achacoso. Pinocchio’s character is the epitome of naïve innocence and is led into trouble time and time again because of it. He is a curious, impressionable, and a sincere young lad. Oliver Usison and Nic Campos shall alternately play the role of GEPETTO, a toy maker who is noticeably warm-hearted and caring, spirited and fun loving. He is constantly yearning for a son and wants nothing but the best for Pinocchio. Arnel Carrion and James Stacey will alternately play the role of ANTONIO, the story's narrator, as well as other characters in the village. He will interact with the audience throughout the show with his inviting, engaging, energetic charm. Antonio Lane and Jay Pangilinan shall alternately tackle the role of CANDLEWICK, the young and rambunctious rule-breaker. With his bratty and mischievous attitude, he leads Pinocchio into trouble with several other boys.

And it's a musical too! A lot of kids watched the show, pero during the show surprisingly they were all quiet. They were all concentrating and following the story! The music beat were catchy too!

Natalie Everett, Ring Antonio and Bituin Escalante will alternately essay the role of Angelina, Geppetto’s housekeeper. She cares deeply for Geppetto’s well being and possesses a loving rapport with him. A thoughtful and clever woman. Liesl Batucan, Christine Flores and Cara Barredo will alternately play the role of the Blue Fairy, an omniscient presence and motherly figure. She looks out for and guides Pinocchio. She is kind, gentle, and generous to those pure of heart. Steven Conde and Steven Hotchkiss will alternately play the role of Signore Volpone, the ringleader of a sinister plot to exploit naive children. He operates as the "brains" of the operation and keeps Signore Gatto in his place. Portrayed as a fox, he is dishonest thief with great cunning and craftiness.

Chino Veguillas and Dingdong Rosales will alternately bring to life the role of Signore Gatto, the less intelligent sidekick of Signore Volpone. Portrayed as a cat, he is a dishonest thief and blindly follows his boss. Onyl Torres, Raul Montesa and Bituin Escalante will alternately play the role of Coachman. Vien King and Steven Conde will alternately play the role of Gino. The ensemble is composed of the following: Khevin Almario, Mano Domingo, Gold Soon, Thea Gloria, Gabri Panlilio, Ina Salonga, David Shawn Delgado, Justine Pena, Daniel Delgado, James Perez, Kendrick Ibasco, Cristy Paredo, Mica Fajardo, Astarte Abraham and Nicolle Cojuangco.

Ms. Joy Virata (in white), artistic director of Repertory Philippines Therater for Young Audiences will direct PINOCCHIO. This marks her third time to direct this musical since it was produced in 1996 and 2004 respectively.

We really had a great time! We were so amazed with the cast especially at the boy who played Pinocchio! How did he memorized those steps and lines? Galing!

Project healthy with 6 best Pinoy fruits and vegetables

Filipinos are very fortunate to live in a tropical country where plenty of fruits and vegetables grow. These staple food crops can be easily grown in home gardens and are sold affordably in the markets. They also provide great health benefits. So why not take advantage of them, right?

“Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, which help nourish your body and keep you protected from diseases. Avocado

I was invited to attend the Swap Your Lifestyle event at Tomato's flagship store in Glorietta. We arrived a little early, so I took advantage of wandering the new, colorful store! I remembered that Tomato was one of the 1st event I attended when I started blogging. And it has been my favorite go-to store ever since. I always check their store every time we go to the malls! We bought my mom a Tomato watch last christmas and gave my sister a watch too. And also one of my fave shoes is also from Tomato. Families of Barangay Holy Spirit along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City trooped to the Barangay Holy Spirit covered court for the “Midea Lab-A-Fair” and experienced first-hand what Midea washing machines, particularly the Midea One-Touch Washing Machine, are all about.

A total of 10 Midea One-Touch washing machines were installed for the Midea Lab-A-Fair, with 8 positioned at the “One Touch Laba Station” at the court, and 2 units at the Demo Truck parked nearby. Each washing machine unit has a power meter installed to showcase its P1 per wash load capability.

The free laundry activity allowed 100 registrants to do the free One Touch trial, with a maximum of 8 kilos of laundry per person. To participate, barangay residents first went to the weighing stations to determine the weight of their laundry, after which, the laundry was then placed in a special bag complete with a number tag that served as the resident’s queue number for the One-Touch Laba Station. While waiting for their laundry to finish, a handful of Midea Specialists talked about the innovative special features of the Midea One-Touch Washing Machine.

And with so many ingredients in front of you, d mo alam which one ang ipapalagay mo or if anong flavor gusto mong ma achieve, hehe! Overwhelming and exciting! :D 

I decided to put all kinds of meat like pepperoni, ham, bacon , beef and 3 types of cheese in my pizza with lots of onions, tomatoes, dried tomatoes and bell pepper. And when I felt unsure of the flavor sa mga pinapalagay ko(haha!), the friendly kuya staffer assured me that it will go well. And he even made suggestions to add this and that. 

Did you know that you can put ALL toppings in your pizza? And you can make it higher as you want. Not kidding!

And tadah! Nakakakilig when I saw the outcome! It smelled yummy too! 

Create your own pizza is php280 only and is good for 2-3 persons. Brought this home to my family and they loved it too! They didn't know that it was "created" by me, hehe! :)

Taste the Historic Filipino Cuisine at Dekada

I always love Filipino dishes. From fried rice with toppings to fish, beef, chicken, iba ang lutong pinoy. They're so flavorful and the taste is always right. And it's true to some people, hinahanap hanap nila ang lasang pinoy. And parang in every season or weather, there's a perfect pinoy food to crave. Like sinigang or nilagang baka for rainy season, halo halo if it's hot and many more. And that's what I love about Dekada! Every pinoy food you crave, they have them!

I was invited to try Dekada, a Historic Filipino Cuisine located at Glorietta. It was my first time at Dekada and was so excited to try them all! 

Bagoong Rice. It's a bagoong flavored rice with grilled liempo, green mango slices and scambled eggs

Dilis Rice. They're crunchy and not too salty for my taste

Gising Gising. I love spicy food and this is one of my personal favorite at Dekada. To all spicy lovers out there, you should try this! Spicy na, vegetable pa. Win!

HoReCa stands for Hotel, Restaurant, Cafe/Catering. It's a joint effort with the Department of Tourism to attract more local and foreign tourists, food lovers and travelers and join the fun festive activities prepared for them. Lots of exhibitors, freebies and giveaways, business group discussion, best promo deals await.

“We wish to introduce to the general public the sector of HoReCa or Hotel Restaurant Café / Catering considered to be one of the fastest-growing touristic sectors in Europe and the Middle East. SM Cares Special Movie Screening for the Blind and Deaf

We all know that SM is a shopping mall, right? But do you also know that SM also has a foundation and different programs that gives back to the community? I attended one rare event that gave me high respect at SM!

SM Cares, a division of SM Foundation through its Program on Disability and Affairs in partnership with SM Cinema, Deaf-Blind Support Philippines, MTRCB and Center for Advocacy, Learning and Livelihood(C.A.L.L) held a "Special Movie Screening for the Blind and Deaf".

Last August 15, persons with visual and hearing impairments were treated to a special screening at various SM Cinemas all over the country. SM North Edsa was the venue for Metro Manila in which the movie Hugo was shown. They also had a simultaneous screenings in other malls like SM Baguio which they featured Life of Pi, SM Davao movie was Les Miserables and SM Iloilo had Taken 2.

Bien Mateo, Program Director of Disability Affairs of SM Cares and SM Supermalls VP for North Luzon said the event is also supported by various People with Disability(PWD) Organizations including: AKAP Pinoy, Philippine Blind Union, National Council on Disability Affairs(NCDA) and the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled(PFRD).


The Movie Television Review and Classification Board(MTRCB) expressed support to the project. Yay! And I'm glad that due to a positive feedback they got from last year, they expanded this year's screening to other malls to accommodate more persons with visual and hearing impairments. They are also planning to make it not only onvce a year event but every quarter. That is good news to our friends!

"The PWD sector has accepted this program very positively. The families of the PWD's who experienced the sensory friendly movies in SM Cinemas are very thankful for the experience that they see their children enjoy the cinemas just like anyone else", Mateo said.


MTRCB formalized its partnership with SM through a signing of a Memoramdum of Understanding before the screening

And to complete  the entire film experience, the featured movie had an audio-description for the benefit of the blind, as well as subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing to read. This projects reflects the company's vision to make SM the mall for all, including persons with disabilities like the deaf and blind. 

Through projects like these, anyone can enjoy what SM has to offer regardless of stature. SM Cinemas have been retrofitted with wheelchair slots. Film operators have been trained to set appropriate sound levels with light balance, assuring convenience and comfort for the audience of sensory movies. 


While watching the movie, I closed my eyes to get the feel of it. The narrative story was very thorough. Every detail of the narration is perfectly described so it will be easier to understand and picture the story. The sound was a little louder but very clear. 

Kudos to SM Cares for this advocacy! I hope they'll continue to inspire other organizations to help our friends in need. Projects like this, brings us hope for the humanity. Good job SM Foundation!
