Top Ten most memorable YouTube videos in the Philippines

$

0
A decade ago, the most common place where people flocked to satisfy their thirst for audio visual content was in front of the television set. The more channels one had, the more freedom there was to choose what you can watch. Thus, the content was also limited by the number of channels available. But since YouTube’s launch ten years ago, Filipinos’ watching behavior has changed, even as watchable content has become immensely diverse. We are living in the golden age of online content with the amount of variety that’s become available to us everyday, with more than 300 hours of videos uploaded to YouTube every minute.

Now at YouTube’s 10th birthday, we look back on how Filipinos have consumed videos over the past decade, and what types of content have become our most memorable videos.

In the Philippines, content ranging from groundbreaking music videos to short viral videos that made people laugh and tugged at their heartstrings have become memorable, if not iconic. In a country like ours influenced by the Western culture, who would have thought that K-Pop would become so popular with Psy’s Gangnam Style leading the trend? This became the first YouTube video to reach one billion views and has been the most-watched video globally since its upload in 2012. I Got A Boy, a hit from another K-Pop sensation, Girls’ Generation, won Video of the Year at the YouTube Music Awards in 2013 and is another one of the more memorable YouTube videos in the Philippines, even if most Filipinos can’t even speak the language.

Filipino content creators won’t be left behind, though, as they produced videos that captured the local viewers’ fancy. Abra’s tongue-in-cheek music video Gayuma and the equally hilarious, though slightly cringeworthy amateur rap video Dota o Ako both went viral the first few weeks they were uploaded in 2012 and 2011, respectively. Apart from witty rap songs, Filipinos have been drawn to love songs like Nasa Iyo Na Ang Lahat by heartthrob singer and actor Daniel Padilla and Ikaw by Yeng Constantino. Ikaw is not just another love song, but a video peppered with candid shots of Yeng and her fiancé—an authentic romance that Filipinos were drawn to. For Filipinos, authenticity is really important in a world with massive variety of content.

Children are often the stars of the memorable videos we watched, such as in ABS-CBN’s Christmas Station ID for 2014 Thank You, Ang Babait Ninyo, performed by The Voice Kids Top 4. Another iconic video, commonly referred to as just ‘Charlie bit my finger’ or ‘Charlie bit me’, Charlie bit my finger - again! captured our hearts in 2007 with the young duo’s adorable brotherly antics. While not starred by kids, Disney’s Frozen soundtrack Let It Go has become one of the most loved videos by Filipinos, young and old. Its sing-along version is considered one of the most memorable videos on YouTube, which is not surprising considering that it has also become one of the most globally recorded Disney songs.

Apart from entertainment, meaningful content are also noteworthy and unforgettable for Filipinos. At a time when more and more women are rising to lead in businesses, Pantene Philippines’ Labels Against Women commercial inspired international discussion for its message against double standards in the workplace. The video empowered women with the taglines ”Don’t let labels hold you back” and “Be strong and shine”. Who can forget the impact this video generated with powerful women including Sheryl Sandberg praising the Pantene ad.

The past ten years have shown a diverse set of our most memorable videos, which reflects the massive variety of content that’s available to us. They also show the richness of the Filipino choices when it comes to media consumption.

In the next ten years, we hope to see more content creators get even more creative and produce a lot of content as more Filipinos go online. If the last decade was any indication, we’ll witness another evolution in how Filipinos consume videos, from desktops to smartphones, while we continue to clamor for more of what we love -- funny, entertaining, authentic, meaningful, and heartwarming videos, from foreign hits to local sensations.

Via Venetto, a world-class Pinoy shoe brand

$

“World-class” has become a buzzword in today’s increasingly globalized economy. In a market that welcomes the influx of products from everywhere, only those with truly special offerings survive. Via Venetto is one such brand.

Founded in 1973, exporting to the United States of America, France and Singapore, Via Venetto is a company that draws upon a cherished shoemaking tradition in the Philippines – one carried on by families in the neighborhoods of Marikina and Liliw, even as cheap, low-quality shoes are being mass produced by the thousands in China and other Asian countries.

Amid the threat of growing competition, the people behind Via Venetto were unafraid to ask themselves: “How do we keep our shoes world-class?” The answer, it appears, lay in sticking to what the company has championed over the years: a strong commitment to quality, handcrafted craftsmanship, and solid support and appreciation of the highly skilled Filipino artisan.
A trusted brand
Since its foray into the shoe business in 1973, Via Venetto has enjoyed a strong following among women of style, with its collection of shoes that are touted to be at par with the world’s finest. Not surprisingly, the brand has earned an iconic status in the Philippine shoe industry.

“Our clients have grown old with us, and it’s a matter of pride for us. We enjoy the trust of many lolas, moms and titas, and we are thankful for that,” reveals Ms. Ging Pajaro, President of Via Venetto. Ging shares that the brand’s designs also cater to teens, women aged 25 to 35, young executives, upward mobile young professionals and the daughters, pamangkins, and apos of their patrons of many, many years.

Via Venetto has since launched new shoe collections that are set to catch the eye of the younger set. Now gracing their racks at Greenbelt, Glorietta, Ayala Town Center, SM Megamall, and Trinoma are ballerina flats and loafers in a variety of shades, as well as platforms, classic pumps, sandals, slingbacks, wedges, and mules with trendy woven, in glittery leathers, snakeskin, patent and new fashion finishes.

While they now sport a contemporary look, somehow the shoes still embody Via Venetto’s distinct aesthetic: made of fine Italian and European leathers, classy, and durable. After all, behind each pair is the brand’s 40 year-tradition of shoemaking.

Fatto a Mano
Via Venetto takes pride in a 39-step process of shoemaking by hand (or in Italian, fatto a mano), a practice inspired by some of the world’s most renowned brands and perfected by the company for over four decades.

Crafting shoes at the Via Venetto factory in Marikina begins with the conceptualization of a shoe design, as well as its translation into a working pattern. This is followed by the cutting, preparation, and closing of the upper, during which the leather is cut by hand or a machine, folded, and sewn together.

The shoemaker will then prepare the counter, outsole, insole, heel, and toplift, which are skived (cut into thin layers), buffed (smoothed), pressed, cemented, and nailed, before they are placed inside shoe lasts or wooden molds. After the lasting comes the attachment of the sole and heel.

Finally, the shoes undergo buffing, painting, polishing and cleaning, to the shoe tree for quality control, and are placed in boxes for distribution to stores, where they are sure to be ogled, touched and tried on by enthusiastic customers.

World-class
In the face of the tougher competition brought by the onslaught of cheaper, imported shoes and knock-offs, Ging and the rest of the people behind Via Venetto are unperturbed.

“At Via Venetto, we have always stayed true to our cherished tradition of superior craftsmanship and our use of only the world’s finest leathers to make high-quality shoes. Hindi pwede ang pwede na (We do not suffice with make-do). It is this tradition which earned us a loyal patronage through the years, and which will enable us to keep our leadership and special place in the hearts of our clients and in Philippine shoe market,” Ging explained.

With a solid handcrafted shoemaking tradition, a devoted – and growing – following, and an innovative vision for the brand, Via Venetto is truly set to conquer greater heights, one step (of a superbly-crafted shoe) at a time.

Pocari Sweat: The right drink for the right reasons

$

The human body loses at least 2.5 litres of body fluids even without having any strenuous activity or any kind of physical training. We lose this much even on a quiet day at work or at school. Because the body doesn’t stop its bodily functions to keep us going and these body fluids are very important in maintaining proper circulation of the nutrients needed by every part of the body and also in keeping it from overheating.

While physical stress has always been attributed to lost body fluids, mental and emotional stress could also contribute to dehydration. Exposure to hot weather also makes the body perspire greater amounts of fluids just to keep our bodies cool. One might think that we are just losing water from dehydration, but along with these are the minerals and electrolytes that our body needs. Every time we lose these fluids is the time when we should rethink about what we drink.
There are many options out there in the market, but nothing comes close to Pocari Sweat’s safe and trusted formulation. From one of Japan’s most trusted pharmaceutical and nutraceutical companies and currently the Philippines’ number one Japanese pharmaceutical company, Otsuka (Philippines) Pharmaceutical, Inc. (OPPI) has brought Pocari Sweat in the country to bring wellness that doesn’t only make you get better, but also keep you to be better.

Unlike other electrolyte drinks available in market, Pocari Sweat is still much safer to drink. “It does not contain artificial colouring, preservatives, caffeine and is non-carbonated,” said Janeth M. Leus, OPPI Asst. Brand Manager. “Though the acidity level has been an issue to isotonic drinks which has an erosive effect on the dental enamel, with Pocari Sweat containing vitamin C and other acidic ingredients, its ingredients such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium turn alkaline once metabolized by the body,” Ms. Leus expounds. “Since the volume of these alkaline-forming ingredients contained in Pocari Sweat is greater than the acidic ones, it is classified as an alkaline-promoting beverage.”

There is no particular limit on the amount of Pocari Sweat one can drink, provided that your body is in good condition. To anyone doing their usual work out, training, or other physically strenuous activity, it is best to gauge how much fluid they lost and replace it in small amount of intakes. “But for people who have medical conditions such as diabetes or gastritis, or they are in a sugar or salt-restricted diet due to obesity or high blood pressure, consider your daily limits when drinking Pocari Sweat, because it contains salt and sugar,” Ms. Leus explains. “It is still best to consult your dietician or doctor on when is the best time to drink Pocari Sweat.”

Pocari Sweat right now is seen as another sports drinks that benefits athletes in their hydration needs, but OPPI sees this opportunity to widened its reach and not be limited to just the sports market. “Being far healthier and safer to drink compare to other electrolyte drinks, we see Pocari Sweat, years from now as the #1 Health Hydration Drink here in the Philippines,” Ms. Leus said.” Our formulation is safe to drink everyday even by an ordinary individual who does not have that much physical and strenuous activity to deal with. And yet the need for replenishing body ions is still needed with the right drink.”

“Pocari Sweat provides all the daily hydration needs in a healthy way,” Ms. Leus adds. “And it starts by rethinking your drink.”

Pocari Sweat comes in 330 ml. can, 350 ml. PET bottle, 500 ml. and two-liter PET bottle.  Pocari Sweat is available in major chain drugstores, supermarkets and convenience stores. For more information on Pocari Sweat visit www.otsuka.com.ph.

Johnson's #PlayForReal - A Gadget-free Playdate

$

With the technology nowadays, it is not surprising to see a child as early as 1 year old holding a tab or cellphone to watch and play. If you go to the mall or any restaurants, you will find kids playing with their parents tab or watching cartoons so parents can eat peacefully and quietly. I sometimes ask Sofi to play with her tab or let her watch (with our supervision, of course) so I can finish my house chores while her daddy is at work (and so she can stop disturbing me for awhile).

And by this, gadgets have turned into toys. Though it holds true that gadget play can teach children in many ways, it is through active sensory play when all their five senses are awakened to discover and learn the world around them.

I know it's easier to give in and just let our kids play with our gadgets. Some kids can even cry their hearts out when we tell them to stop and take away their "favorite toy". I've witnessed some parents give in to stress of kids tantrums. While some parents don't let their kids play outside because of worry like getting dirty, hurting themselves, being bullied by other kids (?), etc., we didn't think that by playing gadgets, aside from the bad effects it can bring to their eyes, they become lazy too. We're not teaching them to be independent. We are guilty of letting our kids be trap in the digital age.

That's why I'm happy to share with you that I fully support Johnson's latest campaign #PlayforReal. It will be an eyeopener for us parents. We can still find awesome ways to let our kids be kids and enjoy living outside the "gadget box".

Sofi and I were invited to attend the media launch of Johnson's campaign #PlayforReal held at North Greenhills Clubhouse where kids had a gadget-free play and enjoyed playing outdoor games, planted some plants and experimented with some colors and paints.

And of course, thanks to Johnson's products, playtime can go on for longer.

Apart from fostering the bond between parent and child, it is during active play when all five senses of the child are awake, making him/her more receptive to learning the world around him/her.

While we let our kids play outside, Johnson's gathered experts and moms to a group discussion on how important it is for kids to play for real.

According to Fiona Sandoval, a licensed clinical psychologist and play therapist, a child reaps the maximum benefits of active play when his/her senses are enhanced and maximized in these activities.

Meanwhile, Monica Javier, a teacher who has worked with preschool children for more than ten years adds that active sensory play help children prepare for bigger things ahead. And that play can actually teach and help children expand their knowledge about themselves, allows communication with others, develop new competencies that may prepare them for challenges of the bigger environment.

We should know that by running, jumping, crawling or any form of movements can help our kids develop gross motor skills. Pretend play in these areas encourages communication among them.

One of Sofi's wishes is to be inside a bubble. I waaaant too!!!

Indeed, playtime can mean so much more. Sofi really had fun playing outside. She told me so herself. So from now on, I will let her #PlayforReal. Will be looking for ways to bring her outside to play.

To learn more about how you can do sensory play at home or in your school, visit https://www.facebook.com/JohnsonsBabyPhilippines.

Thank you for opening my eyes, Johnsons! Thank you for having us! It was an afternoon well spent. :)

Operation Smile sets huge, 5-site cleft surgery mission in PH

Operation Smile, a global children’s charity organization, is mounting a five-site medical mission in the Philippines to provide free reconstructive surgery to 750 indigent Filipinos with cleft lip and cleft palate over a period of nine days, commencing on the country’s independence day on June 12 up to the 20th.
In a joint statement, Operation Smile, Inc. co-founder and president Kathleen Magee and Operation Smile Philippines president Wigbert Funtanilla said multinational teams of cleft care professionals will hold simultaneous surgeries at the Ricardo Rodriguez Memorial Hospital in Bacolor, Pampanga; Sta. Ana Hospital in Manila; Adventist Hospital in Cebu City; Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital in Bacolod City; and Brokenshire Hospital in Davao City.

Oral cleft is one of the country’s leading congenital defects, afflicting one in every 500 newborns or a total of 5,000 Filipinos every year.  Of the estimated 140,000 born with the defect between 1982 and 2014, around 100,000 are still awaiting surgery.

The highly debilitating deformity disfigures the afflicted and impairs their normal speech. If they are not treated early, they are likely to lose their self-worth and become recluses and outcasts.
Operation Smile aims to attend to and eventually eradicate the backlog of cleft cases in the Philippines and ensure that new ones receive treatment before they turn one year old.
“Local resources alone will not suffice to achieve this tall goal at the moment so we are tapping the Operation Smile international network, via this annual mega mission, to augment our effort,” Funtanilla said.

“We have committed to help in any way we can,” Magee said. “We owe it to the Filipino people, whose ‘bayanihan’ spirit inspired us to grow Operation Smile into the global movement that it is today, mobilizing volunteers of different nationalities to treat cleft children of all colors and creeds – this is our gift and tribute to them.”

Magee, a nurse and clinical social worker, said she and husband, Dr. William, a plastic surgeon, established Operation Smile in 1982 following a medical mission in Naga City where they first saw the gravity of the cleft problem and the willingness of ordinary folks to help.

“We came to treat 40 children and saw ten times that number waiting for us at the hospital; we had to turn back hundreds but promised them that we would return,” Magee recalled, adding that what sustained their enthusiasm during the mission and after were the people they don’t even know who dropped by the mission site to bring food and made themselves useful.
Operation Smile has been coming back to the Philippines every year since and, in 1989, helped set up Operation Smile Philippines so that quality cleft care can be delivered to indigent Filipinos year-round.

The advocacy has spread across five continents.  Operation Smile now has a corps of 5,400 highly trained, experienced and credentialed medical and non-medical volunteers from 80 countries doing missions in over 60 countries; an Operation Smile foundation similar to Operation Smile Philippines exists in 42 of those countries.

An Operation Smile mission team usually comprises of plastic surgeons, anaesthesiologists, pediatric intensivists, paediatricians, dentists, nurses, speech pathologists, child life specialists, biomedical technicians, medical records specialists and patient imaging technicians.  All are volunteers who take a leave of absence from their employment or private practice for more than a week to do pro-bono work.

The missions are mainly funded by private corporate donations.

Every day marks new adventures, new experiences and new milestones for babies, and as much as possible, moms would like to record and preserve every moment in a special way.  This is especially true for celebrity mom and Pampers brand ambassador Andi Manzano.

“Having an online scrapbook of baby’s precious milestones can really make a difference in every mom’s life,” Andi shared. “It is like Facebook meant for our babies!”

To help moms easily cherish and treasure baby’s many firsts in life, the world’s no.1 diaper brand recently introduced a fun and exciting online app FirstBook. The app allows moms to share photos and videos of baby’s first achievements in just a snap!

During the launch of FirstBook, the ever beautiful Andi expressed her excitement and some worries about embracing motherhood.  “I can’t wait to see her and touch her for the first time, yet I’m also a bit nervous,” she said. “For now, I’m just really praying for a safe and easy delivery.”

The stars aligned and Andi, together with her hubby GP, welcomed a beautiful and healthy baby girl named Pilar Olivia. "There are no words that can describe that moment when they hand you your baby and you hold her for the very first time," she said in a social media post.

From the first sight of baby Pilar Olivia to her first touch to her first cry, Andi’s FirstBook posts now include her little girl’s first long nap, their first photo shoot together, her first car ride, and many more precious moments. After posting baby’s 12 first milestones in FirstBook, Andi can already publish her very own FirstMovie, a personalized video of baby Pilar Olivia’s firsts.

The launch of FirstBook also coincided with the unveiling of Pampers’ best and driest diaper in 10 years, the all-new Pampers Baby Dry. This new diaper provides up to 12 hours of superior overnight dryness, through a new core technology that features a Soft Touch-Dry Layer, which quickly absorbs wetness to keep it away from baby’s skin, and Magic Gel, which helps absorb and lock in up to 7 wettings, from night until morning.

With the innovations of the Pampers Baby Dry, it is now easier for mommies to ensure their precious ones a night of complete sleep – a process that helps babies greet the next day with happier hearts, healthier bodies, stronger minds and many firsts in life.

“With these newest surprises from Pampers – Firstbook and Pampers Baby Dry – we can greet each morning with smiles on our faces and gladly celebrate our journey of firsts with our precious ones,” shared Andi.

Greenwich Pizzeria: With an interior reminiscent of a familiar and homey feel through the use of wood and brick elements, barkadas will instantly feel being in an authentic pizza place.

Greenwich Kanlaon Quezon City opens its doors with its top executives: (L-R) Albert Cuadrante (General Manager), Pam Reyes (Marketing Director), Inocencio Huyong Jr. (JFC VP and Country Real Estate Head,), and Rose Aquino (Regional Business Unit Head for Metro Manila)

With an interior reminiscent of a familiar and homey feel through the use of wood and brick elements, barkadas will instantly feel being in an authentic pizzeria.

This young, modern, mid-century industrial neighborhood pizzeria look that Greenwich is taking on will attract both loyal Greenwich lovers and curious foodies alike, to be a part of the barkada and savor in the goodness that is truly world-class.

I personally loved the quotable quotes on their wall.

The 2nd floor of the Kanlaon branch is perfect for small gatherings and barkada hang-out. Throw in the Greenwich pizza and pasta, you'll definitely have a good time.

One of my fave "hugot line" at Greenwich, Kanlaon. Haha! :D

Thank you, Greenwich Kanlaon branch for having me! Congratulations on the opening and new design. We will surely expect to see this new look in all Greenwich stores nationwide.

7-Eleven opens first store in Boracay

Aaaaahhh Boracay! One of our favorite vacation destination! And with all the establishments that have opened in Boracay, people may wonder, where’s our favorite convenience store? After all, Boracay is a destination that never sleeps, making it the perfect candidate for a 7-Eleven.

Philippine Seven Corporation (PSC), country licensee of the world’s leading convenience store chain, 7-Eleven, finally opened its first two stores in Aklan, located in Caticlan Jetty Port and Tourist Center, Station 3.

PSC’s grand opening celebration of its first Boracay store was held on May 29, 2015. PSC will end the year with three stores in Boracay and Aklanons can expect a total of 11 stores to open in the span of 3 years.

“We’re excited to be in Boracay, it is a very promising market that is still growing. We are happy that 7-Eleven is the first international convenience store to open in one of the top tourist destinations in the country,” said Jose Victor Paterno, PSC President and CEO.

PSC started its operations of 7-Eleven in the Philippines in 1982 and it now has 1,372 stores to date. It recently opened its first store in Mindanao at Abreeza Mall last May 8, 2015.

Locals and tourists will now be able to enjoy the unique offerings that made the store loved by its patrons. Customers can expect to get a taste of the iconic frozen drink, Slurpee, especially in the midst of the summer heat. Other classics include Gulp drinks, Big Bite hotdog and siopao, as well as new offerings under the 7-Eleven brand such as Fundae ice cream and their newly launched honest-to-goodness coffee, City Blends.

To make the grand opening more exciting, 7-Eleven is launching a special, limited edition offering exclusively for Boracay. Given that the island is one of the country’s top summer destinations, it seemed only appropriate to pay homage with the Slurpee Boracay Tub. For only P159, customers can enjoy 85oz of glorious Slurpee. The tubs come in two cute designs they can choose from.

Bonus: The tubs are made of plastic, which means customers can collect and reuse them. Slurpee sand buckets, anyone?

After the simultaneous expansion in the Boracay and Panay islands, PSC is also looking at potential cities like Bohol and other municipalities in Eastern Visayas to offer the convenience 7-Eleven has always given their customers.

Congratulations, 7-Eleven!!! Looking forward to more store opening soon! More Power!

When it comes to sending some love thru packages to our loved ones, LBC always come to mind. We often heard lines like "If may ipapadala ka, ipa-LBC mo!".

LBC Express, Inc. is now the largest express courier, cargo, and money remittance service company in the Philippines, LBC also provides services to over 20 countries worldwide.  For more than 60 years, LBC has been moving lives, businesses and communities for the global Filipino, providing hassle-free delivery via air, land and sea — from cash remittances to payment solutions, from simple parcels and packages to container loads for corporate logistics.

I was fortunate to be invited at the From the LBC to the world with Love event held at Sun Room. It was also the launch of their newest ambassador. LBC Express, Inc., teams up with the Queen of all Media, Kris Aquino, to better help connect overseas Filipinos and their loved ones back home.

Aquino was launched as LBC’s first celebrity brand endorser on May 20, 2015 at the Green Sun in Makati. LBC executives, celebrities, and guests from the media were treated to tailor-made cocktails and Filipino fusion food representing the countries where LBC is present.

“As a brand endorser, I always make sure that the brand I partner with is trustworthy,” Aquino said. “Every time I have a very important package or document I need delivered, I use LBC. I really trust them.”

Javier Mantecon, LBC’s Chief Marketing Officer, added, “We are honored that someone as trusted as Kris Aquino has joined our family as we bridge the lives of Filipinos all over the world. Kris is an obvious choice to be our first brand endorser because she has a global influence just as wide as LBC’s global presence. Kris endorsing the brand means she absolutely trusts LBC. We are honored by her confidence in LBC for all her delivery needs; and this only means that we’re doing our job well.”

The launch event’s title, “From LBC, To The World, With Love,” suits both LBC and Aquino. Since the 1950’s, LBC has established itself as the overseas Filipino’s bridge to their loved ones in the Philippines. To date, the courier service has more than 4,400 branches, partners and agents in over 20 countries. Like LBC, Kris Aquino is a personality trusted by Filipinos across the world.

During the event, Kris Aquino was warmly welcomed by LBC’s global family at The Eye’s 360-degree panoramic screen. Ka-LBCs from as far as Italy, United Arab Emirates, and the United States of America greeted and interacted with LBC’s new brand endorser.

“I was so surprised that even the staff from abroad made an effort to welcome me to the family,” Aquino said. “It’s this sense of family that makes me excited to team up with LBC.”

This sense of Filipino hospitality extends to how the company treats its customers and partners. Customers are attended to with utmost respect, and associates are helpful in explaining the courier’s various offerings like courier and cargo delivery, money remittances and bills payment. LBC’s understanding of the “padama” behind every “padala” has made it the favorite logistics and courier service of over 2.3 million Filipinos around the world.

“We move lives, business, communities,” Mantecon shared. “But most importantly, we move love.”

And oh, one of the highlight that evening was winning this silver edition GoPro Hero 4! Woot!! Thank you, LBC!

With the partnership between LBC and Kris Aquino, more and more Filipinos will feel the “padama” in every “padala” from their relatives abroad, no matter the distance.

Congratulations LBC on the new endorsement and thank you for having me. More Power!!

Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. - Plato

We all know that life without music would be flat. Music is the only thing that gets our mind off of everything else. To some of us, music is their escape, their form of expression. It's a medicine of the mind. And of course, we have different kinds of ways how we listen to our music. May it be a speaker, headset, earphones, bluetooth speakers, bluetooth earphones/headset, we want our music to be crisp, clear and with excellent quality. So we always look for brands that can deliver good music yet affordable.

Kapuso actress Janine Gutierrez were also spotted at the opening.

Simple milestones become extraordinary with a Jollibee Kids Party

Making their little ones feel special is important to parents. Their precious one’s victories, whether big or small, are more than enough to make them beam with pride. Being named as an honor student, celebrating the first communion, entering kindergarten, or even learning to ride the bike on their own—these occasions are made all the more meaningful when celebrated with the family at a place close to the hearts of generations of kids.

For TV host, former Olympian and mommy of five, Christine Jacob-Sandejas, the moving up of her youngest son, Jaime, from preschool to grade school was a reason to treat the whole family to a Jollibee Kids Party.
Christine Jacob-Sandejas and her son Jaime celebrate his moving up from preschool to grade school with a Jollibee Kids Party.
“There’s always a reason to celebrate milestones; it’s like giving the kids a reward for a job well done,” Christine said. “It makes a child feel special, extraordinary. And it is truly felt when the whole family comes together to celebrate the milestone, no matter how big or small it may be.”

Instead of bringing Jaime’s classmates to the party, Christine decided to invite the kids from an orphanage in Alabang. For their family, celebrations become happier events when they share the love and joy with kids who are in need. “After all, nothing can bring more joy to the kids than Jollibee,” Christine added.

During his graduation party, Jaime was joined by his dad, aunt, uncle, cousins, and his grandma, all of whom are big fans of Jollibee.  “We have always loved Jollibee. Eating at Jollibee is like a treat to the whole family. Everyone always goes out happy after a meal at the store,” shared Christine.

TV personality, home baker, and proud mommy Bettina Carlos also believes that a Jollibee Kids Party is a great way to celebrate children’s milestones, including her daughter Gummy’s moving up ceremony where she received a special “Princess Charming” award.

“I’ve always been big on small things. I was never the type who plans celebrations only for big occasions. I like celebrating even the smallest of things – last day of school or good grades,” Bettina said. “I want Gummy to appreciate even the little things in life, that there is a reason to celebrate every day.”
The smile on Gummy’s face during her moving up celebration at Jollibee is something Bettina Carlos would not trade the world for. “Seeing my daughter happy, it’s priceless,” Bettina said.
Aside from celebrating her daughter’s moving up, Bettina also used the opportunity to show her gratitude to the teachers and staff of the preschool. “It really means a lot that we’re having this moving up party because she’s literally moving to the big school. We also want to celebrate the school that took care of her,” she shared.

The hands-on mom added that her daughter has also had birthdays celebrated at Jollibee, and she considers them to be some of the most memorable moments in their life. “She always gets so excited when we throw her a Jollibee Kids Party. It’s heartwarming. Jollibee was one of the first things that got endeared to my daughter so it has a positive feedback on her.”

The two mothers expressed that celebrating milestones is not only for the big events in the life of children, even the smallest milestone is worth celebrating as well.

“Celebrating milestones is something that every child will love and it creates a stronger bond for the family. It can be done anywhere as long as the whole family comes together. “But I chose Jollibee because they make celebrating milestones easy, hassle-free, and affordable. You can never go wrong with Jollibee!“ Christine said.

“Always make it a point to make your children feel that every milestone is celebrated, no matter how small or big the celebration may be. It will show them how to give importance to the milestones in life,” Bettina emphasized.

Make every milestone, big and small, extraordinary by celebrating it with a Jollibee Kids Party. Book a Jollibee Kids Party now by visiting the Jollibee store nearest you or visit the website, www.jollibeeparty.com.

Say No to Ngilo with Sensodyne

We love to eat. Period. But sometimes having sensitive teeth hinders us from eating something we love like sweets, drinking hot coffee or eating ice cream.  For 9 out of 10 Filipinos who suffer from sensitive teeth or pangingilo, “sensitive” is a bit of an understatement to describe the delicate condition of their teeth.

It is characterized by a short, sharp, shooting pain, which many sensitivity/pangingilo sufferers often choose to just endure, the discomfort caused by sensitive teeth may only last for a short period, but the emotional effects of missing out on those precious moments with your loved ones over food and drinks has a far longer impact.

But having sensitive teeth or pangingilo will not stop us from eating what we want. Thanks to Sensodyne! I was fortunate to attend the Sensodyne latest campaign against pangingilo. Sensodyne, the #1 sensitivity toothpaste in the Philippines, and recommended by dentists, affirmed its commitment to create a future where every Filipino is sensitivity-free with the “Say No to Ngilo” advocacy.

Sensitive teeth occurs when the layer of enamel becomes thin and exposes the softer dentine underneath. This soft layer makes up the inner part of the tooth leading to the tooth’s nerve center and triggers the pain you feel.

Other things that can cause sensitive teeth are:
Brushing too hard or using a hard bristled toothbrush
Teeth grinding
Gingivitis (gum disease)
Receding Gums

Last year, GlaxoSmithKline, the makers of Sensodyne, the #1 sensitivity toothpaste in the Philippines which is also recommended by dentists, spearheaded the “Say No to Ngilo” advocacy where dentists, consumers and Sensodyne came together to enjoin everyone to heed the call to take action to no longer endure the discomfort of pangingilo.

In 2015, GSK and Sensodyne takes the advocacy a notch higher with the launch of “Great Little Moments” digital campaign which encourages Filipinos not only to “Say No to Ngilo,” but also share their experiences after converting to Sensodyne and how they are able to fully enjoy their great little moments sensitivity-free.

“With the start of the summer season, everyone is now looking for someplace or something cool, be it at the beach, the pool or even just a quick respite from the heat with some cold drinks or a cone of ice cream, but if you have sensitive teeth, enjoying those cold treats can be a bit tricky,” says Heather Pelier, Incoming Consumer Healthcare General Manager, GSK Philippines.

“But it’s more than just missing out on food. When you choose to just endure the pain, you do it at the expense of fully enjoying experiences and social occasions that go along with it, making you miss out on those great little moments with your loved ones,” Pelier added.

“Having sensitive teeth can mean anything from getting a mild twinge to having severe discomfort that can last for several hours. It can also be an early warning sign of more serious dental problems.” said Dr. Rannier Reyes of the Philippine Periodontal Society.

Luis Manzano as Sensodyne ambassador also shared his experience of having a pangingilo teeth. “For those who have sensitive teeth like me, I know you’d agree that it is not something you can just ignore. Sensitive teeth can ruin the mood of any romantic date, or stop you from enjoying those unforgettable moments with your loved ones,” Sensodyne brand ambassador, Luis Manzano shares.

They also introduced the new Sensodyne Mouthwash to complement its toothpaste and complete its expert sensitivity regimen to help consumers put an end to teeth sensitivity.

Sensodyne Mouthwash has all the benefits of a regular mouthwash like providing lasting freshening effect, and fluoride to strengthen teeth and protect against decay. It’s alcohol-free plus it gives pangingilo relief. It has two variants (Cool Mint and Extra Fresh 250mL) at Php165 SRP. The mouthwash is distributed in major supermarkets and drugstores nationwide

The digital campaign encourages consumers to share their “Great Little Moments” in the Sensodyne Philippines website (www.sensodyne.com.ph) by uploading a photo of a moment (eg. sipping hot chocolate, eating halo-halo, etc.) they can now fully enjoy because they are pangingilo-free. Winners of the contest will win a trip for two to South Korea.

So, if you have pangingilo, switching to Sensodyne to replace your regular toothpaste and mouthwash can make a big difference not only in your enjoyment of everyday life, but also in your overall oral health.

Don’t let the pain of sensitivity get in the way. Say No to Ngilo and Yes to those Great Little Moments!

Happy Network TV5 launches Hi-5 Philippines

I had a privilege to attend the Hi-5 Philippines media launch held at TV5 and it was one of the fun event I attended! The group that captivated our hearts with their singing, dancing, story-telling, Hi-5 from Australia now has a Philippine version to bring joy to our Pinoy kids!

Until now that Sofi is 8 years old, we still watch Hi- 5. She follow their dance steps, we know all their songs by heart and we learn values with their story-telling.

And I'm excited to share with you that the award-winning Australian children's edutainment program now has an all-Filipino cast. Hi-5 Philippines is the first for the series franchise in Asia and it will air at TV5 every weekdays starting June 15 at 8:30am and 3:35pm.

Launched in Australia in 1999, Hi-5 rapidly grew popularity over the years. It has won three Logie Awards for Most Outstanding Children's Program, five ARIA Awards for Best Children's Album and five Australian DVD and Video Industry Awards, among other achievements. It was then that Hi-5 started expanding its reach by franchising the show across North America, Europe, Australasia, Latin America and Asia.

While waiting for the media launch to start, kids who were brought by their mommy/daddy and media bloggers were treated to a coloring fest to keep them busy. I was not able to bring Sofi because she has school already that started last June 1. :(

We were told to go to the studio to get a glimpse of what to expect with Hi-5 Philippines.

Can you recognize her? We were all surprise when we found out who she is! I'll
let you know who she is at the end of this post. :)

And of course, who is the best guest for the launch? Fely Irvine of Hi-5 Australia! We all know that she is half Filipino and half Australian and she'll be gracing the mall tour of Hi-5 Philippines!

The Hi-5 Philippines cast of Gerard Pagunsan, Aira Binas, Rissey Reyes, Alex Reyes and Fred Lo are set to bring a Hi-5 House Party in every household as the interact with kids in both English and Filipino, inviting the young audience to sing and dance along to the show's iconic songs and lessons.

I love how they included popular Hi-5 songs and made some Filipino version too. They tagalized some songs to reach more to the masses. The story-telling were in Filipino also.

The dynamic new quintet all boast of extensive backgrounds in performing arts and will now channel that energy to engage kids in music, imaginative play, social interaction and developmental growth in a fun way.

And we are all excited because this is the first time that the Hi-5 franchise assembled an entirely new cast for the localization of the show in Asia.

Watch how the Hi-5 gang of Gerard, Aira, Rissey, Alex and Fred makes learning exciting and fun for kids through songs and dancing.

Can you guess what action song is this? Yes! It's the L.O.V.E!

The wait is finally over! Hi-5 Philippines will be airing on TV5 starting this Monday, June 15 at 8:30am and 3:45pm. It's going to be a Hi-5 on TV5 with more songs, dance, stories for the Pinoy kids everyday! Yay!!!

Mommies, daddies, titas and titos, do you still remember our Batibot days? Yep, that's Ate Sienna! We were so kilig when we found out that she's part of the Hi-5 production!

Can't pass up without a pic with Fely!

Hey kids, now here's your chance to meet the Hi-5 gang in person!

Thank you TV5 and Hi-5 Philippines for the invite and congratulations!

Don't forget, Hi-5 Philippines will air weekdays at 8:30am and 3:45pm starting June 15, on the Happy Network TV5.
