Upstart Dramatic Readings

Media celebrity G Töngi, newly appointed Artistic Director of Upstart Productions, heads the cast of a dramatic reading of the powerful American play The Baby Dance, brought to you by Metrobank Card Corporation. This one-night-only performance is set for 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Century City Mall, and kicks off an entire series of dramatic readings called Upstart Soundstage. No props, no sets, no costumes—just a different play or musical every other Sunday until September 7.

“Readings like this are very popular in L.A and New York,” declares Töngi, who has timed her birthday celebration to coincide with the first play in the series. “We want to do the same thing over here.” To that end, Upstart has lined up an impressive array of actors for the project: noted stage and screen personalities Audie Gemora, Noel Trinidad (one of Upstart’s board members), and Töngi herself, along with renowned directors like Anton Juan and Bobby Garcia.

Upstart Soundstage will present a different full-length drama, comedy, or musical every two weeks, each show featuring well-known theater personalities and stage directors. No props, no sets, no costumes—just pure performance.

But will Manila audiences take to the concept of stage shows without any staging? Apparently, they already have: Töngi and her partners have conducted quite a few informal readings of this type, and they’ve all been very well-received. Upstart founder Joel Trinidad, Noel’s son, is not at all surprised. “I’ve always loved dramatic readings, “ he shares. “When you take away the sounds and lights and costumes, you force people to really pay attention.” Upstart Managing Director Onyl Torres, who doubles as the company’s Musical Director and Composer, likens the medium to a radio play. “You get the same emotions, the same human drama,” he says. “It’s very powerful.” Töngi concurs: “In our last few readings, people were in tears—the actors and the audience.”

Upstart Soundstage kicks off with Töngi’s birthday celebration: a reading of Jane Anderson’s The Baby Dance, an emotionally charged drama about a suburban couple adopting the unborn baby of a poor couple. Other proposed shows in the series—which will run continuously, every two weeks, in three-month blocks—include Pippin by Stephen Schwartz, Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet, The Seagull by Anton Chekov, Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Christopher Hampton, and many others. “A different show every two weeks, at a fraction of the cost of a regular show,” notes Töngi. “Where else can you experience that?”

Upstart Soundstage: The Dramatic Readings. Started last Sunday, June 15, at 7:00 pm at the event space on the 5th floor of Century City Mall, Kalayaan Avenue, Makati, and playing continuously every other Sunday from then on. Show schedule may change based on availability of performance rights and other factors.

Tickets at P300 each, available at the door. Presented by Metrobank Card Corporation in cooperation with Century City Mall. From Upstart Productions.

Did you know that 9 of the 10 leading causes of death in the Philippines are health related? And did you also know that just by eating better, making small lifestyle changes and doing moderate activity on most days of the week, we can reduce the risk of many diseases and increase our quality of life?

The People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) is advocating health and wellness in the workplace as one of the most important issues that companies need to address today. With this, PMAP will hold a nationwide event called National Wellness Day that  is envisioned to be participated by various companies in the country, both PMAP and non-PMAP members, on June 20, 2014.

PMAP Trustee for Fellowship and Wellness Mitch G. Guce said that through the years, the organization have organized employee activities like sports fests, family day events and the likes for its member companies. “This time, we want to come up with an activity that will help promote awareness among employers and employees about the importance of being physically, emotionally and spiritually healthy.“

PMAP also presented a suggested program format that companies can use as a guide for a half-day event that they can organize in their respective workplaces. It includes company-sponsored healthy lunch and snack; learning sessions on work-life balance, holistic and spirituality; and the 7-Minute PMAP Wellness Moment, a quick wellness activity that involves stretching and meditation to be done simultaneously across the nation by employees at exactly 3:00 pm on June 20.

The People Management Association of the Philippine (PMAP) recently promoted over cable TV channel GNN the nationwide event called National Wellness Day to be participated by various companies in the country happening on June 20, 2014. During the recent episode of The Workplace with Marybeth Nave (3rd from right), the group presented a 7-Minute PMAP Wellness Moment, a quick wellness activity that involves stretching and meditation to be done simultaneously across the nation by employees at exactly 3:00 pm on June 20.

In the photo (from left) PMAP Communications Specialist Richard H. Mamuyac; Trustee for PR and Publicity Committee Jesse Francis N. Rebustillo, Trustee for Fellowship and Wellness Michelle G. Guce; Chair for Fellowship and Wellness Committee Carmie De Leon and Healthway Medical Marketing Manager Joven A. Alcala.

The wellness moment involves the following activities: (a) 2-minute stretching/ self-massage, (b) 2-minute of silence (to pray or meditate), (c) minute dance/ jog in place/ jump or hop and (d) 1-minute clapping/ laughing or handshakes with colleagues.

Companies who will join in the event are encouraged to document their participation through videos and/ or photos and send a copy to the PMAP Secretariat to be included in the list of companies who will be recognized with a workplace wellness certificate during a PMAP event.

“We encourage all our members to participate in this worthy activity likewise to discuss to your employees our advocacy on how to stay fit and become more productive members of our society,” Guce added.

Aside for this initiative, PMAP is also organizing the National Wellness Summit happening at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City on August 28, 2014 which will showcase the best corporate best practices on wellness in the workplace, health and fitness activities, company booths and others exciting surprises.

Herbal Essences! Say Yes to a Scentual Pleasure

I used Herbal Essences shampoo when I was in college and it was an instant fave shampoo of my family up until we couldn't find them anymore in the market. And now, a few years later, Herbal Essences is back! More vibrant, shinier, and bolder!

When I attended the Herbal Essences media launch comeback a week ago at 71 Gramercy, their tagline/hashtag caught my eye. Herbal Essences made a provocative and scentsual comeback with a stimulating and exciting event. Heralding the return of Herbal Essences is its bold campaign to encourage the pursuit of shameless pleasures. After all, there is no shame in seeking things that make one deliriously happy.

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration with a fusion of orchid and coconut milk

Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight with a scent of honeysuckle and silk

The return of Herbal Essences was marked with an event that had attention-grabbing, thought-provoking monologues about unapologetically admitting and seeking one’s own definition of shameless pleasure. The segment, Shameless Talk, featured two of the most colorful, candid personalities in the social scene—actress/host Kat Alano and writer Erika Paredes. The two talked about their most shameless pleasures, and how women should be empowered to openly chase after what pleasures them.

Highlight of the event is the playful reveal of TV host/celebrity blogger Divine Lee as the brand ambassador of Herbal Essences. Hot on the heels of appearing in a video where Divine was revealed as the woman behind the moans overheard at a coffee shop, gym, yoga studio and shower room, she gamely confessed her very own shameless pleasure.

“I love taking a shower with Herbal Essences lalo na after a very long day. Sobrang scentsual! When I’m in the shower, I look forward to the refreshing scent of the shampoo. Sarap na sarap ako sa shower experience,” Divine candidly admitted.

And look at that dress! Very similar to Kendall Jenner, minus the thigh super high slit. I think only Ms. Divine Lee can pull that dress off. And she looks shameless on it!

Playful, smart, vibrant and a go-getter as evidenced by her blog and podcast escapades, Divine Lee flawlessly embodies Herbal Essences’ naughty but nice character. She encourages women to pursue their desires and go after life’s shameless pleasures.

Divine could have easily chosen to be a lady of leisure but has decided to make it on her own, assert her personality and unapologetically chase after what pleases her. She initially took a corporate role before pursuing a career in modeling and made a star-making turn on social media as a fashion and gay icon.

Divine takes pride in and celebrates her reputation as a “babaeng bakla” – fun, spirited and naughty – headlining the hit podcast Becky Nights and expressing herself on Twitter while sharing her hilarious takes on anything under the sun through her blog www.divinelee.com. She’s also very open in declaring her affections for her boyfriend, actor Victor Basa.

Procter & Gamble Philippines decided on Divine Lee as brand ambassador as she epitomizes what Herbal Essences stands for: the female go-getter who’s naughty and nice, playful, adventure-seeking and unafraid to chase after what she wants.

“Divine Lee is the made-for-Herbal Essences woman. She is deliberate and bold in the decisions she has made both in her professional and personal life. Divine demonstrates how to want pleasure and act on it. She’s charmingly unapologetic about her pursuit of pleasure. She is a perfect fit for Herbal Essences which makes even the most ordinary act of showering pleasurable and rapturous,” says Pepe Torres, country marketing manager for hair care of P&G.

Inspired by the shameless confessions, the guests were encouraged to share their shameless pleasures publicly. Guests were treated to various pleasurable activities such as having their pictures taken at the naughty and sensual Shameless Shower photo booth, sampling deliciously sinful food selections and exciting admissions onstage about their shameless pleasures. The whole event area was suffused with a natural fragrance to highlight the refreshing scent Herbal Essences gives off, resulting in a scentsual shower experience.

Enjoyed the fun event with Kai

So whether it’s singing along to a teenybopper pop song, stalking someone online or a shower experience which turns out to be the most pleasurable highlight of your day, we encourage you to go ahead and say YES, YES, YES to shameless and scentsual pleasures.

Take it from Divine Lee, and try the all new Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner.

Like Facebook.com/Herbal EssencesPH and follow Twitter.com/HerbalEssencesPH to stay up to date on the exciting activities planned for Herbal Essences.

Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner are now available in all leading supermarkets and drugstores nationwide!

What pleasures you that you’re reluctant to admit? No need to be ashamed—confess! Say Yes, Yes, Yes to a Scentsual Pleasure!

This is my confession.. Uhm.. haha! One of my shameless pleasures is going to the grocery store especially SnR and trying out all their freebies of sample food! Oh yeah! Haha!

So, what's yours?

Red Turnip Theater launches its 2nd Season

I had a fun afternoon at 2nd's last Monday when I attended the Red Turnip Theater media launch. Red Turnip launch its 2nd season.

In the span of a year, Red Turnip Theater has made its mark in the Philippine theater scene. The band of five actors that make up Red Turnip (Ana Abad Santos, Topper Fabregas, Jenny Jamora, Cris Villonco and Rem Zamora) wanted to come up with a maiden season that would re-introduce Philippine audiences to the straight play while putting their own stamp on the theatrical experience. Their first production, “Closer”, was a bruising and honest take on modern day relationships and their follow-up, “Cock”, was a biting comedy about sexual identity. Both productions went on to acclaim with critics and audiences alike.

The five are back with their second season and are excited to unveil their line-up.

They kickstart their second season with the 2007 Pulitzer Prize winner, “Rabbit Hole”. Written by David Lindsay-Abaire, the story revolves around Becca and Howie, a couple who lose their four year old son to a car accident, and the grief that slowly threatens to tear them apart. Shifting between humour and heartbreak, “Rabbit Hole” explores the way people deal with loss and how this affects those closest to them; their families. Variety calls it “an intensely emotional examination of grief, laced with wit, insightfulness, compassion, and searing honesty”.

"Rabbit Hole" stars Agot Isidro, Michael Williams, Che Ramos-Cosio, Sheila Francisco and Ross Pesigan and runs all weekends of August; directed by Topper Fabregas.

Next is a re-run of "Cock" by Mike Bartlett. A critical darling during its premiere last March, the original cast reunites for a limited run at Whitespace. Topper Fabregas, Niccolo Manahan, Jenny Jamora and Audie Gemora reprise their roles under Rem Zamora's direction. "Cock", heralded as "a triumph" and "a theatrical gem", will run from October 3 - 5.

Jenny Jamora: We are still reeling from the overwhelming response generated by our first season. When we got together to form Red Turnip, we knew it was gonna be a risky venture. But we also knew there was an audience out there hungry for the straight play. We never expected the enthusiasm that people have for our little company! We are staying true to our vision by promising the sort of productions that have put us on the map--great writing coupled with fantastic ensemble performances. Our second season shows our "softer" side and we couldn't be happier with our line-up!

Topper Fabregas makes his directorial debut:
Apart from it being a brilliant script, we Turnips also chose ‘Rabbit Hole’ as our second season opener because were hungry to show a different side to us. ‘Closer’ and ‘Cock’ defined our first season as these fantastic, in-your-face experiences. ‘Rabbit Hole’ takes the (deceptively) gentler approach but will knock you out just the same. It’s also a great showcase for its cast, and you don’t get any better than these five actors. We are excited to have them on board. We are also very thrilled to be back at Whitespace!

Capping off the season is "Time Stands Still" by Donald Margulies in February 2015. A Pulitzer Prize nominee, it tells the story of a photojournalist who is forced to return home from a war zone. She must then come to terms with her professional and personal life and her place in the world. Ana Abad Santos and Nonie Buencamino lead the cast. Rem Zamora directs.

Cris Villonco

"Rabbit Hole" opens on August 1, 2014 and runs all weekends of August. Log on to https://www.facebook.com/RedTurnipTheater for complete show schedules.

Tickets are available through TicketWorld (891-9999 or www.ticketworld.com.ph) or Red Turnip Theater (redturniptheater@gmail.com or https://www.facebook.com/RedTurnipTheater)

Children of Multiple Intelligence

When speaking of “intelligence,” most people only think of academic aptitude, such as readiness towards schoolwork or getting high grades. Thus, parents say their child is “smart” when he or she lands the top of their class. But with the advent of ‘multiple intelligence’ – the simplistic definition of intelligence no longer holds. Now more people are realizing that true intelligence covers a broader spectrum of an individual’s capabilities.

A new context of ‘smart’
The concept of Multiple Intelligence was first introduced by Dr. Howard Gardner, an educational psychologist at Harvard University who explored the topic in his book Frames Of Mind. Dia Kagaoan, psychologist, licensed teacher, entrepreneur and SPED educator, trained under Dr. Gardner himself when the latter came to the Philippines in 1985. Dia explains that according to Gardner’s theory, there are multiple ways that a child can be smart, and to date has listed nine categories of intelligence. “From the standpoint of early childhood development, the most relevant types on this list can be narrowed down to three: Brain Smart, People Smart, Body Smart,” she says.
Dia says a child has the capacity to achieve holistic development if provided with suitable instruction, encouragement, and nutrition.

Not settling for one
From an early age, Margaret Maraña has exhibited a predisposition towards advanced development. She mastered the concept of numbers up to the thousands at the tender age of 3. In less than ten days, she was able to memorize the multiplication table at the rate of one table a day. She loved poetry and story books. By age 5, she could easily point out places like Pretoria or the tiny Pacific and Atlantic islands on the world map. She was also a competent dancer who responded well to choreography. Today, aged 6, she handles academic material two levels advanced.

But it turns out Margaret had another strength which will actually lead to further developing her other smarts. Early on, her mother Lila noticed that her daughter had the ability to hold people enthralled. “She actually developed conversational speech late. What I didn’t get was how she was able to make friends so easily without saying a single word.” Everywhere they went, Margaret would always come away with two to four new friends. Once, at the beach, Lila was shocked to discover upon returning to their cottage after a brief errand, that everyone in the vicinity already knew Margaret by name. “I saw her playing in the sand with kids I hadn’t met. Some people were assisting her and buying a cone of ice cream for her. I don’t know how she does it.”

Lila observed that as Margaret became more sociable, she participated more actively in her dance classes showing more confidence with the way she moves. It was also mentioned to her that Margaret had become more participative in class. As a mother, Lila came to realize that developing one smart can help enhance other smarts and with this, she continuously makes an extra effort to further support her child’s growth.

As a motivated mom, Lila shares that she truly invests a lot in Margaret’s overall development – she gives her only the best. She enrolled her child in the one of the best schools in the metro and even got her child involved in different extra curricular activities during the weekends. “When I saw that Margaret showed interest in dancing, I enrolled her to one of the top dance class studio recommended by my mommy-friends.” To add, Lila admits that when it comes to purchasing products for her child, she is the type to always go for the superior quality products especially if recommended by credible personalities that she looks up to. “I make decisions thinking that I have to make sure that my child becomes her best. And the way I see it, the more I invest in superior quality things, the more returns both my and my child get.”

A valuable player
Dia’s first son, Jiad Arroyo, showed a predisposition towards physical activities early on. “He was always running outdoors and moving around. At 5 or 6, he was already insisting on playing basketball with the adults.” Once when he was 4, Jiad jumped into the deep end of the pool and failed to surface that his aunt had to pull him out. “While most kids would be upset and crying, Jiad’s response was: ‘Why did you pull me out? I was already swimming my way up!’”

To provide an outlet for this unlimited energy, Jiad’s parents bought him a bicycle. While other kids his age drove precariously on trainers, Jiad had his uncles remove the training wheels and rode his bike with such gusto that his mom had to cut socks into tubes to make him elbow and knee pads to protect him from the rough and tumble. As he got older Jiad qualified on a baseball team based in Alabang. Later he also tried Taekwondo, and won gold medals for his efforts. Eventually, Jiad got a scholarship as a basketball athlete.
With an athletic scholarship, Dia told her son that as she supports him in his journey as an athlete, he should not forget that he is a student first before an athlete thus he should put as much effort in his academics as he is honing his skills in different sports. “Jiad used the discipline he learned in sports to perform better academically.”

“His friendliness and easy going attitude got him a lot of influential friends. His coaches and sponsors were always opening new opportunities for him because they liked him. As a supportive mom, I would always remind him that opportunities and blessings will keep on coming as long as he values them and as long as he is consistently good in school as he is good inside and outside the court.”
Harness the power of multiple intelligence

According to the theory of Multiple Intelligence, genetics, culture, and how the child is raised influence intelligence.  Dia says, “Good nutrition is vital to the holistic development of the child.”

Lila couldn’t agree more. “I don’t believe a person’s success is dependent on good grades. That’s just one part of it. All the other intelligences – like the way they respond to people or using their bodies to communicate competence are all equally important.” One of her commitments is making sure that her daughter limits junk food intake, eats more fruit, greens and protein, and drinks the right milk. “Our pediatrician only recommended Progress Preschool Gold. At first I had thought that all milk formulas were the same – I was wrong.”

The new Progress Preschool Gold now comes with its best ever Gold Biofactors System (vs previous formulations) that comprises higher DHA, Lutein and choline- to help build a child’s multiple intelligence. For Dia, whose kids, including Jiad, were also raised on Wyeth milk products, educating parents on the role good nutrition has in making a child ready for multiple intelligence is very important.
“We should train up a child in the way he should go,” Dia says. “And if you are a smart mom, you should know that with a competitive environment, it is best to support a child’s multiple intelligence because if your child excels in all smarts, then he will always be steps ahead from the rest.”

Always Fresh at CaliBurger

Every time I'm craving for a burger, I only have a few, simple request. It must be hot, fresh, with tomatoes, lettuce and onions and of course the patty should be juicy and tender. Yep, that's simple request, right? Lol!

Anyway, I was invited along with my fellow bloggers to try the new burger of CaliBurger held at their Timog branch. And I must say, every request for my burger is granted, thanks to the new CaliBurger BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger!

So, what is a CaliBurger? CaliBurger brings the California lifestyle to Asia. Their laid back atmosphere, beachy type of stores, food like burgers, milkshake, fries, onion rings resembled the California vibe.

It was my 1st time to try CaliBurger though I've heard about it. Since they're introducing the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger flavor, we were given each one with onion rings as side dish.

Before attacking the burger, of course side dish muna! I instantly loved their onion rings! I love the flavor, they're not too oily and you can really taste the onions. I can't help but compare them to other onion rings. And the big difference is, they are not flour coated. It is what it is. Natural onion rings!

CaliBurger introduced their new kind of burger in their menu. The BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger flavor passed all my simple request. Juicy, meaty pattie, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. And with added bacon, not tidbit bacon, but a real bacon, Ah! Who could resist this temptation? And since it's bbq flavor, it's a little bit sweet than the usual burger. But that is already expected. Some of us may not be fond of sweet tasting burger, but you can add ketchup and mustard on them for your liking.

Say AAAHHHH!!!

They are sold separately. BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger Php195 and Onion Rings Php50

An all american milkshake like vanilla, chocolate and strawberry are also available to complete the California experience.

CaliBurger also offers other product like this Cali Sweet Wings. Yes, it is sweet, but I personally love it! The chicken wings were glazed with sweet like flavoring. Will definitely go back to CaliBurger to eat this again.

Cali Sweet Wings Php185 for 8pcs or Php95 for 4pcs.

A closer look at their menu

The friendly and approachable staff of CaliBurger

Haven't been to their Century Mall branch, but this Timog branch is love.

Don't forget to use these hashtags whenever you eat CaliBurger! #CaliFresh, #ILoveCaliBurger, #AlwaysFresh

Aside from their Timog branch, you may also visit them at Century Mall Plaza. For more info and updates, please like their facebook fanpage, instagram-@CaliBurgerPH and twitter.

Thank you so much CaliBurger for having me!

So last Sunday, supporters flocked the Glorietta and Mall of Asia Fila branches to have an up-close encounter with the Philippine Volcanoes, Fila endorser Fabio Ide and the fabulous and stylish Ms. Tessa Prieto-Valdez for a meet and greet session, photo op., a lot of selfies and fansigns.

The Philippine Volcanoes were so game in showing how they truly love their supporters by interacting with each one of them! More photos, selfies and wacky shots later, all fans went home with a smile in their faces!

And I couldn't let the day end without a photo op with Fabio Ide and Jake Letts! Thanks guys!

And here's a good news to all! Fila is having a sale right now that even I couldn't believe the 'bagsak presyo" or big discounts in their items!

Get a pair of one, two or three for as low as Php1,299 for men's shoes and Php999 for ladies' shoes! Talk about steal! Big steal! Play high, Pay Low indeed!

Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp 3

It's time again to let our kids shine and hone their talents! And this is what Promil i-Shine is all about! I believe that every child has a talent whether it's singing, dancing, sports, arts and many more and it's up to us as their parents to believe that they can do it, to start nurturing the gifts of their children. If we believe them, they'll believe it too. This kind of venue help us parents to encourage our kids to stand out and be proud of what talent they might have. Parents play a key role in nurturing their child’s potential, especially when it comes to giving them the encouragement they need and proper nutrition so they can pursue their interests.

Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp is back on its third year with a bigger and better production, as Wyeth Nutrition and ABS-CBN go beyond the studio walls and expose the kids to real talent institutions that have nurtured and developed similar talents – of dancing, singing, and acting – throughout the years.

For over 25 years, Promil Pre-School has been advocating the development of the Filipino children’s talents with the help of their parents, proper care and proper nutrition. In line with this advocacy, the i-Shine Talent Camp aims to help exceptionally talented preschoolers develop their full potential.  Aside from the extensive workshops, the roles of parents and proper nutrition will also play a big part in nurturing the preschoolers’ gifts to mastery.

Current Promil Pre-School Ambassador, as well as Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp Year 2 Top i-Shine Singer, Nathan Bautista treated us to a dance performance during the event.

And here they are! The top caliber mentors were also revealed – fierce mom and the artistic director of G-Force, Georcelle Dapat-Sy; Multi-platinum artist and the country’s music icon, Zsa Zsa Padilla(not in the picture); and critically acclaimed and world-class television and movie actress, Angel Locsin. These mentors will guide the i-Shiners through a series of workshops, sharing their knowledge as experts in their various fields. In the duration of the camp, the chosen preschoolers will be guided and given the opportunity to strengthen their talents.

Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp Year 3 TV hosts Dimples Romana, Matteo Guidicelli, and Xian Lim were present during the event. All three hosts shared their memorable experiences in the past years, as well as their excitement for what’s new for the third season.

Previous Promil Pre-School grand i-Shiners Lukas Enrique Magallano in 2012 and Yesha Camille in 2013 have received numerous television appearances for their talents in singing and acting. Lukas was able to appear in Kapamilya shows such as ASAP, Little Champ and Muling Buksan ang Puso while Yesha is currently shooting for an upcoming series with her i-Shine mentor Piolo Pascual. These kids, having continuously shown much promise, are now on their way to become icons through the help of the i-Shine Talent Camp.

This year, the audience was given the chance to vote for their favorite i-Shiner through the Wildcard voting. A shortlist of 30 finalists was revealed on the Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp microsite. The audience chose their favorites through online voting – one for singing, one for dancing and one for acting.  The three finalists per category with the most votes will join the nine finalists selected by Wyeth Philippines and ABS-CBN, and complete the top 12 i-Shiners.

These 12 i-Shiners will be taken to different institutions that played significant roles in nurturing the gifts of some of the country's icons for a series of workshops. The Grand Finale will stage a grand performance by the i-Shiners with the help of their moms and mentors. Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp is also giving away over Php 1 million worth of prizes, and a contract from ABS-CBN and Promil Pre-School to the Grand i-Shiner who will be receiving the highest score.

Aquabest The water of tomorrow

People today live very hectic lifestyle having to juggle their careers, social lives, among others. Between rushing to and from meetings or parties, people tend to neglect their health. As a result, most people turn to various diets and therapy to help improve their health. What most people don’t get is that drinking lots of water can just be as effective as fancy therapies and diets in keeping you in shape.

Drinking water helps cleanse and revitalize the body sweeping away toxins and impurities in the body. Water also helps keep our energy and alertness levels up all day. Overall, drinking lots of water can lead to greater personal wellness and well-being. However, not all water is the same some are better than others.

Aquabest Granderized water in particular is radically different from other types of drinking water being not only clean but also healthy. Utilizing four unique technologies Grander, Tanwing, Nanogen, and Reverse Osmosis; Aquabest alters the very nature of water to make it better.

Tanwing Technology and Reverse Osmosis are filtration technologies that help eliminate practically all contaminants in the water making them safe and clean. Tanwing works by utilizing two wavelengths of ultraviolet radiation to help eliminate all biological contaminants. At the same time, reverse osmosis filters water at the nanometer level far smaller than a strand of hair to ensure that all impurities are filtered out.

The Nanogen and Grander Technologies work at the molecular level to infuse health giving properties to the water by affecting the molecular structure of the water. Nanogen is a Korean technology that utilizes nanotechnology to neutralize pure water’s inherent acidity. Acidic water is supposed to be a contributing factor to some diseases. Grander Technology from Austria alters the molecular structure of water to improve body absorption.

Normal water molecules are large and irregularly shaped. This causes uneven rates of absorption into the body making it inefficient and disorganized. With Grander Technology the water molecules are compressed and given a uniform shape. This facilitates faster and more efficient absorption into the body.

Overall, Aquabest Granderized Water improves on the inherent cleansing and rejuvenating qualities of water.  Each drop reaches deeper into the core of every cell in our bodies allowing them to perform their functions better. Drinking Aquabest Granderized Water will rejuvenate the body at its very core helping people look and feel better.

Our favorite diner Johnny Rockets is here once again with new offerings that will bring satisfaction to our palate and tummies! I had a privilege to attend the exclusive taste test of the new Johnny Rockets addition to its Gourmet Burger line held at their Eastwood branch.

The new gourmet burger will surely hit home with its new Lobster Wagyu Burger!

And of course, Johnny Rockets dancing servers entertained us while waiting for our food.

And here it is! Bringing together two exquisite ingredients, this latest creation combines the richness of lobster with the smooth taste of specially-prepared Wagyu burger that's grilled to perfection. It is served with American fries to keep your tastebuds busy with the unique mix of flavors, and wanting more the whole time!

Gourmet Burger Lobster Wagyu Burger is php925. A bit pricey for a burger. But, don't forget that lobster alone is a bit expensive in the market. And with wagyu burger, you'll get your money's worth naman! It's not everyday that you get to eat lobster wagyu burger, so it's a perfect excuse to indulge and try! The burger is also big for me so it's perfect for sharing.

And Johnny Rockets also introduced the new milkshake that hit the stores! If you love wasabi, you should try their wasabi milkshake! I know, it's not for everyone. But if you're up for challenges and feeling man vs food ka, and for the experience, you should try this one! I personally liked it. The after taste is kinda nice as long na super duper cold sya.

One Child, One Sport x National Milo Marathon

Can't believe that Milo celebrates their 50th year this year! Milo was my favorite chocolate drink growing up. And now that I have a daughter, drinking Milo is part of her breakfast and after school energy booster!

I know you've heard of Milo as advocacy of sports, right? From Milo Best, Milo Sports Clinic, Milo Marathon, Milo Little Olympics, etc. Milo is always after our health and wellness.

And this year, Milo once again proves that we can build a nation of champions!

Leading beverage brand MILO announced its partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) for the One Child, One Sport campaign. One Child, One Sport will enable closer collaboration between MILO and DepEd as it consolidates their new and existing sports programs under one umbrella campaign. Anchored on the thrust to build a nation of champions, the program seeks to empower, mobilize, and inspire both the youth and their educators through sports and proper nutrition.

“We are working closely with DepEd to raise awareness about the value of physical education and sports in bringing a wealth of physical and mental benefits and teaching life values that prepare schoolchildren for a successful adulthood,” says Nestle Philippines Beverages Business Executive Manager Sherilla Bayona.“One Child, One Sport is a program that encourages children to get into an active and healthy lifestyle and eventually lead them to sports.”

Bayona adds that providing access to physical education and various sports disciplines will not only shape the country’s budding athletes, but will also address the right of every Filipino child to learning opportunities for a better future. MILO and DepEd seek to engage 15 million schoolchildren aged 7 and above to become active and healthy champions by 2017.

MILO and DepEd will implement One Child, One Sport across ongoing and new sports programs in public schools in the country. One example of how OCOS will leverage existing MILO sports programs is the National MILO Marathon, which will continue to engage DepEd through its short distance race categories and the Help Give Shoes Advocacy.

I'm a believer! I'm all for building a nation of champions, one child, one sport at a time!

Coach Rio - one of the ambassadors of Milo Marathon

Throughout the years, the National MILO Marathon has not only catered to professional athletes but also welcomed aspiring runners in the 3-K and 5-K distances where young sprinters have emerged as division winners.

The National MILO Marathon’s legacy lives on as it ushers the 18-leg event with the opening race in Baguio on June 29. The winners of this season’s National Finals will be given a chance to compete in the 2015 Tokyo Marathon. Last year’s victors Eduardo Buenavista and Mary Joy Tabal, will go head to head with the nation’s best to bag the top purse and claim the coveted spots in the esteemed international race event. Part of their prize for winning the 37th NMM in 2013, Buenavista and Tabal recently competed in the Paris Marathon in April 2014. The country’s biggest and most prestigious footrace expects 230,000 runners to participate this year.

The brand will also further the support for young Filipino talents by providing 16,000 underprivileged youth with brand new running shoes this year to reach the 50,000 mark through the Help Give Shoes advocacy. Help Give Shoes aims make the donation to students in Yolanda-hit cities, particularly Tacloban, Ormoc, and Eastern Samar.

The One Child, One Sport campaign will resonate in MILO and DepEd’s new and existing pool of grassroots sports programs, namely the MILO Summer Sports Clinics, MILO Little Olympics, MILO-BEST Center, and the National MILO Marathon. In integrating the campaign in its programs, MILO aims to build a nation of champions with one child knowing one sport at a time.

About Help Give Shoes Advocacy
The National MILO® Marathon is the biggest running event in the country, with an immense popularity that has attracted runners from all age groups to participate, including children.  However, a lot of driven young runners don’t have shoes.  Imagine seeing a little boy run kilometer after kilometer of rough cement barefooted.  This moving scene inspired MILO® to make this year’s run more meaningful, by giving out running shoes to deserving public school children.

The root of this advocacy lies in MILO®’s belief that they are not just providing children with running shoes, but are giving them something that they can wear to school, for sports and other activities.  It’s definitely a step to help them reach their true potential and be the best that they can be. In 2010, the National MILO® Marathon provided 4,200 running shoes to public school children nationwide with the “Help Give Shoes” advocacy. Since its conception, MILO has donated a total of 34,200 pairs of shoes across the country.

Php 10 from every registration fee will be allotted to the advocacy. MILO will then match the proceeds and work with the Department of Education to select 16,000 public school student beneficiaries in Tacloban, Ormoc, and Eastern Samar cities. MILO aims to reach its 50,000 advocacy mark by the end of the 38th marathon season.

Midea Appliances Product Launch

Ever since I became a mom, it was a joint decision with my hubby that I'll be a stay-at-home mom to Sofi. From taking care of Sofi to house chores, my daily activities involves a lot of physical activities to run our house. And since I don't have a yaya or helper, from preparing our meals, washing the dishes, cleaning, doing the laundry, I do it all! And yes, I rely on microwave for heating our food and washing machine for washing our clothes. Hey, I'll welcome all machines that could help me make my house chores easier.

And speaking of machines and house chores, I recently attended Midea's launch held at Buddha Bar, Makati where they showcased products that can make life simpler.

The World’s largest consumer appliance producer launches this innovative collection with the aim of ultimately changing the face of household chores by making every busy homemaker’s life easier.

“Nowadays, multitasking is a trait that seems to be innate in every Filipina. Gone are the days when women merely have their household to manage.  Now, they also have to juggle their responsibilities at home while still tending to their careers,” says Mr. Philip Trapaga, General Manager of Concepcion-Midea Inc. Philippines.

This great shift is something the global brand hopes to give solution to. Women at present are breaking away from their traditional roles and together with this come more things for them to manage.

This is supported by the current upward trend observed in the 2013 worldwide Women’s Advancement Index study that ranked the Philippines third in the Asia Pacific region in terms of women’s participation in the workforce. This figure supports the continuous display of independence among women in the country, whether it comes to their career or simply their life.

Mr. Phillip Trapaga - General Manager, Concepcion Midea Inc. Philippines (CMIP)

The Midea One Touch Washing Machine

“Time is something very important for active homemakers. Being hands-on with their decisions for their household can be a challenge especially with their busy schedules and other responsibilities. This, however, is definitely possible with the right appliances,” says Mr. Trapaga.

Midea’s One Touch Washing machine is engineered to make the lives of us Filipinos better, adds Mr. Trapaga. He continues, “From its one-touch feature that enables you to wash, rinse, and dry with just a touch of a button to its smart sensors which detects the weight of the laundry you’ve put and automatically fills in the right amount of water, these features are all geared towards making the laundry chore easier and simpler.”

One of the highlights of this washing machine is its Quick Wash function that lets users clean a drum full of clothes in as fast as 19 minutes. Among its most attractive features, however, is the piso wash, a perfect element for all the budget-conscious. The model boasts of energy efficiency, as one wash cycle is equal to only one peso in electrical consumption. It is merging quality with affordability indeed!

The Midea Party Refrigerator

“We call our Midea French door model our “Party” Refrigerator as it is built to store a huge amount of food and drinks fit to throw a big party. We Filipinos love to celebrate and entertain in our homes and the Midea Party Ref is the right product for their needs,” says Mr. Trapaga.

Midea’s Party Refrigerator comes with a wide range of innovative features. With wide interiors, adjustable shelves, and efficient French doors, this model can store up to 20 baskets full of groceries.

The refrigerator system also boasts a “Keep Fresh technology” that maintains the optimum level of humidity to maintain food freshness for longer periods of time. It also irradiates natural light to enhance the nutritional value of food and uses UV light to break down pesticides commonly found in fruits and vegetables.

Similar to the One Touch Washing Machine, the Party Refrigerator fuses high-quality with affordability and energy savings. It is designed with a cutting-edge Turbo Inverter Compressor that enables users to reach desired temperatures without need for costly warm-up times.

This is so cool! It's so big it can even fit the lechon inside the refrigerator! I can just imagine myself going to the grocery and not worrying about stocking up or spoiling the food because everything can fit in the ref! It will save me more trip in going to the grocery! I need this!!!

What a pretty sight!

Raul Joseph “Jojo” Concepcion, Chief Executive Officer of Concepcion Industrial Corporation (CIC) and Chairman of Concepcion Midea Inc. Philippines (CMIP) believes that Midea’s new line has all the qualities that can make the lives of consumers simpler. For him, however, a product’s quality goes beyond a solid set of features. Concepcion describes, “We want to bring innovation to a new level of easy. And Midea already has this in their product portfolio. For CIC’s part, we simply want to reinforce their product line with strong aftermarket support and rich local experience.”

“Picking the right appliances goes a long way in building a home. With the help of Midea’s products, our busy homemakers can focus on the things that matter the most to them—be it fulfilling the promise of their careers or spending more time with their families,” finishes Trapaga.

"We've got it all for you!" this tagline alone from SM Malls makes me giddy when I go shopping at SM. I've been introduced to shopping at an early age and the only mall that I know that time is SM Cubao. Be a Contiki Storyteller

As the saying goes, “Travel brings power and love back into your life.” ― Rumi and one of my favorite quote is “We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” ― Jawaharlal Nehru

Oh, if I have all the luxury in the world, I will definitely pack my bags and travel, explore the other side of the world. But for the mean time that I can't(but will definitely travel someday), I'll enjoy other people's story and experience. And if you're like me, who can't travel now, we can all listen and enjoy a storyteller's adventure.

And this is what we did when we listened to Mikael Daez' adventure to Costa Rica. Through Contiki, he became our storyteller.

So, what is Contiki? Contiki Holidays is the legendary worldwide leader in holidays for 18 – 35 year olds. For over 52 years, we have been taking like-minded travelers around the world offering unforgettable experiences and memories in over 46 countries across five continents.

The holidays’ duration range from quick breaks as short as three days to epic journeys as long as six weeks. They are committed to delivering outstanding value through mix of original sightseeing, culture, adventure and fun with diverse range of unique itineraries! From special accommodations (like their very own 16th century French Château), to amazing food, exclusive Backstage Pass access and the local know-how of passionate team to take care of all the details, the travelers can get on with making every moment count.

As a continuation of the Earth Month initiatives from last year in the Galapagos Islands, Contiki Holidays invited Mikael Daez, his videographer and brother Nicky Daez, and a selection of 11 other inspiring storytellers from around the world to travel to Costa Rica for our newest Contiki Cares partnership with The Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC).

From 29 March – 07 April 2014, the group teamed up on a VIP conservation trip, based on Contiki’s 12-day Costa Rica Unplugged itinerary, with Contiki’s sustainability partner Céline Cousteau – a documentary filmmaker, environmental activist and granddaughter of Jacques Cousteau.

Mikael has an appetite for adventure. An appetite that would make him a celebrated foodie, but more importantly, a traveler with an epic tale to tell. He finds exploring the world truly fascinating. He believes traveling expands his perspective and forces him to grow in ways that wouldn't happen within his comfort zone. He pursues his beliefs with a passion, a passion he eagerly shares with others.

A thirst for adventure. An insatiable hunger for sights and sounds outside vicinity of the comfort zone. And a passion to share the experience. Mikael Daez was exactly the man Contiki was looking for.

The Storytellers took to Torteuguero Beach for two nights to track leatherback turtles, protect their nests from poachers in the area and were lucky enough to witness the incredible nesting process of two leather back turtles.

They also experienced all that bio diverse Costa Rica has to offer in true Contiki fashion – zip lining through the rainforest, rafting through the rapids, taking a dip in the hot springs and touring the canals in hopes of spotting some of the beautiful wildlife native to the area. With the belief that storytelling has the powerful ability to inspire change, Contiki Holidays has released an inspiring short film of the Contiki Storytellers experience (www.contiki.com/storytellers).

To encourage viewers to share the video with their peers and raise awareness of the human dangers currently faced by sea turtles, Contiki Holidays has also pledged to sponsor a turtle as each 250,000 view benchmark is reached.

Along with 11 other inspiring storytellers, Mikael Daez traveled halfway across the globe. To the shores of Costa Rica. With absolutely #noregrets. And made it count.

I'll be a storyteller too. Someday. :)

Looking forward: Contiki winter and 2015

The autumn, winter and spring seasons are all about choice as Contiki offers 4 diverse ways to explore the sheer awesomeness of Europe – see it all on a Multi-Country, discover the local charms on a Time-Out Regional, hit the slopes on the epic Ski & Snowboard Austria, and join the party on a number of Festival trips.

And just because the options are endless doesn't mean the costs start to rise – exploring Europe during the low season gives travelers a lot for just a little. With 7.5% off Contiki Europe Winter 20142015 trips booked and paid before 29 August, there’s never been a better time to plan ahead and look forward to experiencing the unexpected magic that Europe has to offer in Winter. For a traveler on a budget, it’s the best way to go!

Check out Contiki's website www.contiki.com/storytellers to know more of their future adventure and be a storyteller like Mikael Daez.

If you can be a storyteller, where will you go?
