People at the Legazpi Sunday Market recently received a pleasant surprise as they shopped for their produce. Dora sets off on her greatest adventure in “Dora and friends: Into the City”

Nick Jr.’s global phenomenon, Dora embarks on her greatest expedition yet, with new animated pre-school series Dora and Friends: Into the City! Premiering in Asia on Monday, March 30 at 11:30AM on Nickelodeon, and March 23 at 11:35AM on Nick Jr., the half-hour series centers around Dora and her new group of friends living in a city, attending school and setting out on new adventures that service the community.

In “Dora and Friends: Into the City,” Dora explores a bigger world and discover new learnings with her gal pals who share her passion for knowledge and exploration. (Credit - Nick Jr.)
Developed with the support of educational experts, the show is based on a new, interactive curriculum that focuses on community service, problem solving, emotional skills, language and culture. Created by original Dora the Explorer creators, Chris Gifford and Valerie Walsh Valdes (Dora the Explorer, Go, Diego, Go!), Dora and Friends: Into the City! will air weekdays at 11:30AM on Nickelodeon, and 10:15AM on Nick Jr. after the premiere. The Dora the Explorer series, which after 15 years remains one of the most-watched shows on Nick Jr., will also continue to air on the channel.

Dora’s pals include dramatic, artistic and avid reader Kate; intellectual Naiya, who excels at maths and science; Emma, an accomplished musician with a drive to be the best; Alana, an athletic, confident soccer player and animal lover; and Pablo – a smart, playful, energetic athlete and explorer.

Dora is all set to take on the big city with her new friends—artistic and book-loving Kate, intellectual Naiya, accomplished musician Emma, confident and athletic Alana, and smart, playful, and athletic Pablo. 
“Dora and Friends: Into the City! expands on Dora’s legacy of being a compassionate leader, friend and role model, in a setting where she can have dynamic peer relationships and experience the world around her in new and exciting ways,” said Teri Weiss, Executive Vice President, Nickelodeon Pre-school. “Pre-schoolers will explore with their favorite pal Dora and her new friends while developing interpersonal skills and a sense of community that will help them navigate new social situations like starting school and making friends. And, of course, learning Spanish along the way.”





Set in the fictional city of Playa Verde, Dora and her friends set off on magical and real-life adventures. During each expedition, Dora uses Map App on her smartphone and her magical charm bracelet to navigate the city and overcome obstacles. Dora continues to be a good friend, leader, and problem-solver with a group of new friends who share her passion for learning and exploring.

OOTD: Appreciation day + #SeizetheSummer

I know it's been awhile since I last posted an ootd. I've been taking a lot of outfit photos for the past weeks, and I hope to share all of them to you. Anyway, last month, my family faced a lot of challenges... health wise that is.

My daughter Sofi and hubby got sick almost at the same time. I stayed home to take care of them and declined a lot of happenings and had to set aside my personal agenda. But now, I'm grateful that they are up and about. They are now healthy and back on track. Hooray for me! :)) But seriously, despite of them being sick, I'm happy that I was able to do my wifey and mommy duty to them and they really appreciated it (they're very vocal when it comes to giving appreciation, esp my daughter). And I realized, there's nothing wrong with being vocal, especially if you need to shower and appreciate a person. It makes that person feel wanted. Whenever my daughter (she's 8, btw) tells me that I'm the best mom and I rock (lol) every now and then, it makes everything worth the sacrifice. :)

Repertory Philippines presents 4,000 Miles

Filipinos are family-oriented. That is the story of our culture. A fact woven into the very fabric of our existence. From our first hours on earth to the very last, we are surrounded with family. We celebrate birthdays, fiestas, countless Christmases and reunions together. Truly, we value our family ties. From our parents and siblings, to our lolos and lolas, Pinoys are known for putting a premium on what matters most.


That’s why the cast of Rep’s latest offering believe that Filipinos can relate with the story of 4,000 Miles, a play about an widowed old woman and her grandson who suddenly drops by after a cross-country bike ride.

“It’s about understanding. It’s about our journey towards growth and wisdom. That’s what makes it so universal. I think by the end of it, we’ll all walk away just a bit wiser about the dynamic of human relationship,” Bart Guingona, the play’s director said.
Jeff Flores, who plays the role of Leo in the stage play, says that Filipinos would be able to identify with the characters in this adaptation of Amy Herzog’s masterpiece. “Leo and Vera have a very untraditional dynamic...there are things in their relationship that is very universal, and that is something that Filipinos should watch,” Flores added.

Flores will be sharing the stage with one of the most veritable names in Philippine theater, Baby Barredo, who will be playing the role of Vera. Her castmates and director were all praises for Barredo, who they say is quite a joy to work with.


Flores also feels very privileged to portray the role of Leo. A character he says he finds so easy to identify with. “Leo is a manchild. He has a habit of running away from the stress, which works for me in my life. Being Leo has forced me to admit a lot of things that are childish about myself.”

The play will be shown on March 6 to 29 at the Onstage Theater, Greenbelt 1, Makati City. And as early as now, the cast of 4,000 Miles is more than excited to bring this story to Pinoys. Guingona, describes the material as one of the best-written plays he has handled. He excitedly shares that a monologue delivered by Flores’ character is destined to be a classic. “What I love about this play is it is a quiet play. There’s no histrionics and high-drama,” Guingona added.

Caisa Borromeo and Cara Barredo will also join the cast as Bec and Amanda, respectively.

In its various runs across America, 4,000 Miles has received praise for its story.  It has been heralded as the Best New Play by the Obie Awards in 2012 and was a Finalist for the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. Amy Herzog was also recognized as an outstanding playwright by the New York Times.




The Voice Kids Season 2 goes to Starmall

After the stunning success of The Voice Kids (TVK) Season 1 and The Voice franchise as a whole, it isn’t surprising that ABS-CBN is already laying the groundwork for the next batch of talented young singers in the country.

The reality singing competition is open to children between ages 7 to 13. Each kid shall prepare two to four songs in the audition. No need to bring tapes – the songs will be sung in a capella to better gauge the singing talent of the participants.

Auditions will be done in different Starmall branches, as per schedule:
March 15 – Starmall Alabang, 9 to 5 PM
March 15 – Starmall San Jose Del Monte, 9 to 5 PM
March 21 – Starmall EDSA-SHAW, 9 to 5 PM
March 25 – Starmall Las Piñas, 9 to 5 PM
March 29 – Starmall Prima Taguig, 9 to 5 PM
April 9 – Starmall Talisay

The above dates are preliminary auditions, inviting talented young kids to put their best foot forward and get noticed. From there, the ABS-CBN reality show judges will be weeding out contestants and picking the best of the best for their team. No doubt, the audition is just part one of the long, gruelling – yet highly rewarding process of being the next grand champion of the The Voice Kids.

The Voice Kids Season 1’s winner, Lyca Gairanod, won a recording contract with one of the best in the industry today, her career currently enjoying a fast rise with MCA Universal.

Along with that, she and her family are now enjoying their new home in Camella Tierra Nevada. Camella, the biggest homebuilder in the country, was one of the major sponsors of the show.
Additional prizes of Lyca include 1 million cash prize, a trust fund, home appliance and music showcases, and many more.

Even months after the airing of the TVK season 1, Lyca, and the other top contestants, namely, Darren Espanto, Juan Karlos Labajo and Darlene Vibares, continues to make waves and creates their own mark in the local entertainment industry, a testament to the high publicity the show has garnered. According to Kantar Media, TVK Season 1 was the most-watched show nationwide in 2014, garnering an average rating of 34.5%. 

Last season’s show was hosted by Luiz Manzano and Alex Gonzaga, and the second season promises the same setup. The team of judges in Season 1: Sarah Geronimo, Lea Salonga, and Bamboo Mañalac may also be part of this successful show’s second season.

During its three-month run (May to July 2014), The Voice Kids dominated social media with the top contestants trending in social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. More of the same are expected for Season 2 as judges embark on blind auditions and coach their picks to become better singers and performers in general.

The Voice Kids is based on a Dutch reality TV Show running under the same name. The Philippine reboot of the show will start airing soon after auditions. Stay updated for further TVK audition schedules.

Samsung Electronics Philippines Corp. (SEPCO) recently staged its second Samsung Digital Appliances Grand Cook Off held at the GalaStars Culinary School. The Grand Cook Off showcased local bloggers show off their cooking skills by creating their signature Filipino dishes. This is Samsung’s way of recognizing Filipino cuisine’s richness and innovativeness, as well as the value of food in bringing the family together.

 Adding to the excitement of the cook off were the Samsung Digital Appliances Brand Ambassadors, a group of esteemed culinary masters, who also served as guest celebrity judges. And I can't wait to share with you who won the cook-off! Read on and find out!

Samsung Digital Appliances Brand Ambassador and famed culinary star Chef Ernest Gala is the managing director of GalaStars Culinary School. At this school, he fulfills his commitment to instill the love for food and cooking into his students. He also develops mouth-watering recipes for various food companies and writes for Philippine Star, Mabuhay Magazine and Celebrity Recipes.

Chef Rolando Laudico, commonly known as Chef Lau, is one of the most sought-after chefs in the country. He is also a host in the Amazing Food Challenge’s Fun in the Philippines. His various restaurants like Guevarra’s and Bistro Filipino showcase his talent for creating highly delectable dishes loved by many Filipinos. Believing that creativity can be best expressed through food, he was excited on how the contestants will satisfy his craving for innovative cooking.

With Chef Lau is his other half, Chef Jacqueline Laudico, a true chocolatier with a gift for creating award winning desserts for Patisserie Filipino. Highly experienced in the art of preparing sweets and chocolates, Chef Jac was looking forward to seeing who will be the most creative to get her nod in this Grand Cook Off.

During the cook off, the judges had their eyes on the Ginataang Manok prepared by Karina Ramos of Digital Filipina. According to the judges, the dish had the best and most remarkable flavor, as well as perfect balance of creaminess and smokiness. All the judges agreed that it had a unique smoky flavor that they have not yet tasted from a traditional ginataan dish.

Aside from capturing the judges’ heart and taste buds, Karina’s Ginataang Manok also won her a brand new Samsung Inverter Refrigerator and a Php 20,000 in cash to take home.   
“At first, I was a little worried that the Ginataang Manok might taste burnt rather than smoked. However, after tasting it, I know I will never look at a ginataang dish the same way again. I also appreciated the way Karina prepared her dish, which she made from scratch. This compliments the art of Filipino cooking,” Chef Lau shares.

Aside from agreeing on the winning signature dish, the judges also expressed their delight on how the contestants brought their A-game, how the cook off gave them a different judging experience, and how they are looking forward to more competitions like this. The judges said the contestants exceeded their expectations. “Overall, I am happy and definitely impressed with the contestants’ huge efforts on their cooking preparation and performance. The winners truly deserve their awards!” Chef Lau exclaims. 

Chef Jac, on the other hand, shared that the cook off was a breath of fresh air for her. “It was different from my usual judging experiences. As compared to competitions I usually attend to, this cook off is more casual and relaxed. The cook off felt like a Filipino family gathering where everyone is excited to prepare, showcase, and share their unique dishes,” Chef Jac says.

Seeing how the Filipino culinary heritage is continuously developing while staying grounded to its roots made Chef Ernest thankful for Samsung’s cook off. “With this competition, I had a chance to interact with the contestants, offer my expert opinions on cooking, share my advice, and also learn from them. I hope Samsung will hold more competitions like this in the future,” Chef Ernest ends.

Completing all 12 stamps meant the customer could bring home the commemorative notebook that featured artworks from contemporary Filipino artists and proceeds collected went to each customer’s chosen organization. The original artworks featured in the covers of the Commemorative Notebook were also auctioned and were donated to the charities. The entire campaign was such a success that not only was it well received by loyal patrons; it also won numerous awards. 

The following year, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® introduced its follow up with 24 Cups of Goodwill, where proceeds from the campaign were given to its 24 partner organizations. In 2010, for Changing Lives with Every Cup, they shifted their focus on sending scholars to school by partnering with Real Life Foundation and their Adopt-a-Scholar program, where the company was successfully able to send 8 scholars to university. 


In 2012, they continued their efforts with the iBuild campaign, which helped raise sustainable housing solutions for impoverished families. And by 2014, they introduced the Brew Your Best Year campaign, which evolved their efforts into giving back to their loyal patrons by helping them give back to themselves as well. Through this initiative, they hope to help each person in their journey towards becoming the best version of themselves.

Asia’s Got Talent” Premiere Tops Philippine Ratings

If there is one thing my family loves to do in the house is to watch talent shows. May it be singing, dancing or anything that will showcase how far a person will go with their God's given talent. And speaking of talent shows, AXN’s highly anticipated “Asia’s Got Talent” premiere collectively topped ratings among English Pay TV channels in Southeast Asia. Yay!

During the show’s two hour debut on Thursday, March 12 at 8:05pm, AXN delivered more than 10 times the ratings of the next English general entertainment channel across Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines. 


 “Asia’s Got Talent” was the top AXN program year to date in the country. During its telecast, AXN ranked #1 with more than 80 per cent share amongst all English general entertainment channels, and ranked #2 amongst all Pay TV channels.

In Singapore, “Asia’s Got Talent” led the ratings chart in its timeslot for English Pay TV channels and AXN was also the top English channel for the night on StarHub. In Malaysia, “Asia’s Got Talent” was the #1 rated show in its timeslot across all English channels on Astro. AXN dominated the timeslot with over 80 per cent share across all English general entertainment channels.

“Asia’s Got Talent” is the 63rd adaptation of the Guinness World Record-breaking hit “Got Talent” format, which was created by Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and is co-produced by FremantleMedia. The “Got Talent” format is officially the most successful reality TV format in history and currently airs in 186 countries.

Each act competing in “Asia’s Got Talent” will have to receive at least three “Yeses” from the esteemed celebrity judging panel comprising 16 time Grammy-winning Canadian musician David Foster, UK pop sensation and former Spice Girl Melanie C., Indonesian rock icon Anggun, and Taiwanese-American pop idol and actor Van Ness Wu.
